No rest for the wicked here at the Swindon & Cricklade Railway !

Today the Steam Loco Dept commenced the overhaul of ex-GWR 0-6-2t 5637!

The team on site stripped the cab of all the fittings and began removing the pipework. Who knows, by the end of this overhaul we might be considerd 56xx experts!

Pictures and updates will be added to this thread as more updates follow:

Did anyone spot how the hole in the bottom of the gauge frame appears on that photo to be partially blocked?

That's pretty normal. The hole in the backhead behind a typical gauge frame tends to be about 3/8", but the hole through the fitting to rod it clear is usually a lot smaller - thus when you take the fitting off you find the hole is often blocked with scale down to about the diameter of the rodding hole in the fitting.
You don't need a very big passageway for a gauge glass to work fine, so it's not a big deal.

A small update this week. The weekend just gone saw a small team removing further components from the cab as well as the cab floor. The Cab roof and tanks have been unbolted and are ready for removal in the coming days.

A Happy New Year to you all here!

The S&CR Steam Loco Dept have been busy over the Christmas period preparing 5637 for her boiler lift!

Today saw the tanks and cabs removed, ready for the boiler lift and assessment. We also brought down TKH 3135 "Spartan" to the SLD area to commence her HGO also.
