It's hard to pick favourites because the standard of photos and videos continues to improve, there are some cracking shots there, a fabulous effort by all.

    Cheers,
    Mark[/quote]

This is picture of day for me, man and machine, job nearly done. Mr Seymour looks like he's ready for a brew!
Pics like this sum up all thats good in railway preservation and mainline steam. Pride and passion and skill, it doesn't have to be pin sharp, it captures a moment in timeless style.

    Very well done Mark.

Great Pics and videos as usual, especially the vids of the climbs out of Man Victoria and Barnsley.

As has been mentioned, it was raining clag through the windows, our table looked like my Gran's fireplace. I hope West Coast have a good vac.

A couple of pics taken at the water stop at Sheffield:

5407 in need of a good tin bath, too.

Pathing stop at Penistone, which everyone tells me is NOT pronounced the way I do it, but hey, it amuses me. :)
I note there is an almighty 'wiggle' for the track to get from the platform to the viaduct - why?
The crowds in the fields overlooking the viaduct were something to behold.

I found that the clag was still hot when it got to me, judging by the scarred smokebox etc on 5407 it was very hot... methinks it will need the black paint out again.
As you say Roy the crowds were out in force, every bridge from Barnsley to Penistone in particular were crowded, and there were crowds on most stations as well. I'll bet we looked good through Chinley as I think we were on 60mph in that area for quite a long way.
Don't suppose there was no one there with a video camera.

And while we're completely off-topic, Finsbury Park and Cuffley spelt backwards are quite amusing to anyone with schoolboy humour.

The Tin Bath - First Steam in HOW MANY Years?

70013 travelled over the Huddersfield-Penistone line on 28th October 1967 at the head of a MRTS/SVRS special.

Was THIS the last steam working over that route .... or did 4472 pass the same way sometime in 1969 on one of its numerous "Mystery Excursions" that it worked at around that time?

:-k In other words, prior to March 2009, what actually WAS the last loco (in steam) to use the line and WHEN?? :smt017

Re: The Tin Bath - First Steam in HOW MANY Years?

Yes, Scotsman did do the route in '69, can't find the actual date though.
This was a 'Mystery' excursion from Doncaster to Cleethorpes. We knew where going but didn't know the route which was via Wakefield Kirkgate, Huddersfield, Penistone, Barnsley and then, I think Wath and Rotherham & Darnall but memory gets a bit hazy after all these years. What I do remember well though is that, on the way back, Scotsman proved incapable of getting the train up the 1 in 50 out of Barnsley and we stalled before Summer Lane requiring the assistance of a Type 3 at the rear to get going again!

Scotsman was in Barnsley 21st June 1969 photo in book 'Railway memories No8' by Bellcode books, The 1in50 out of Barnsley is still a test for locos. It was a far more difficult climb than Miles Platting on Sunday part of which is supposed to be 1in47. When's the next run over the line i wonder?
