I just wanted to post on here to say what a lovely day we had on the Santa Special today at RSR.

It was our little girls first experience of a live steam engine and she had a ball! Everyone was so friendly and helpful throughout the day, from the chap who welcomed us, to Santa who spent time speaking to her. We had a ride on the miniature railway and to cap it all a photo on the footplate!

I am hoping that steam will become part of her life as it is mine, and she couldn't have had a better first experience!

We cannot thank them enough, I would strongly recommend a visit for young and old!

There seems to be very little about the RSR on the forum.

Here are 21 photos taken on the 17th, concentrating on locos which have recently arrived at Preston including 4979 Wootton Hall. The album begins with five views of an electric railcar built in Preston in 1908 for Norway, where it is now preserved:

Photos of previous visits to the RSR, in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013, are in the British heritage railways I - W section of my website:

I couldn't seem to find a recent thread on the Ribble Steam Railway, or it's recent Spring Gala, so heres a few pictures from their gala a few weeks ago. img_4317.jpg img_4326.jpg img_4337.jpg img_4338.jpg img_4342.jpg img_4346.jpg img_4374.jpg img_4387.jpg img_4390.jpg img_4399.jpg

Called in today as part of a greater Preston area day trip couple with the West Lancashire Light Railway. Never visited before it and it is a great little set up. Train was Furness No. 20 plus four Mk 1s and a royal saloon. Took a trip on the well filled Mk 1s with some wee girls cleaning the tables and distributing Easter chocolate. I was then booked on a second trip on the royal saloon complete with ploughman's lunch and a beer (cake and coffee in the earlier trip, and afternoon tea on later services). Tasty and a great revenue booster. The museum building was packed with locos, and free workshop tours were running too. The road running over the swing bridge was a real highlight. Great to have it ticked off, a lovely little line.

Thank you Charles for your lovely comment and great photo. The driver on No.20 that day was myself and I hope your ride was smooth in the Old Saloon! 20 is easily my favourite engine and it is a pleasure that we are able to use it for events. It's just arrived back from a busy Spring gala at the Mid-Hants Railway. I think I have just about recovered from that event too!
Hopefully 20 will be running for the Bank Holiday weekend of this month and we do look forward to seeing as many people as possible over the three days. I am driving the Saturday so if anyone is around please come and say hi, ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them.
Furness Railway Trust Chairman is driving on the Sunday. You will easily spot him as he will be wearing his Gentleman's Top Hat.
