Last I heard of 30072 was that it was under overhaul at Ribble. So if it isn't at Ribble, I'm all ears as to where it actually is now.

 

Report in the Oldham Times that Metrolink has funding to extend from Rochdale to Bury, initially to Heywood. I don’t know if this affects the ELR.

Flexed our members cards for a day up and down the Lanc's today, pleasantly surprised with the good ridership, did include Ale trail, afternoon tea and private party in the Waterman carriage. 80097 back in a new shiny coat and 45108 effortlessly chortling along.

 

80097 hasn’t got a new coat ,just a good clean .

No new coat, just a good clean after a bit of retube work.
Paintwork is in good condition, testament to the initial paint job and the care from the Bury Standard 4 Group volunteers and ELR Cleaners

This stuff about the ELR being used as a commuter route into Manchester has surfaced yet again, it was on the BBC North West news programme last night.

some outfit called city and valley lines have done yet another report into it.

what is going on with this, it never seems to go away?

 

Just out of interest, have these suggestions ever coincided with the periodical 'reopen everything' headlines on the Isle of Wight? It seems as if both alternate as the result of some fella with a bee in his bonnet shuttling between Newport and Ramsbottom.

 

They were suggesting using those Vivarail class 230s, like on the IOW, maybe the two are related?

The doc in the link is silent on the ELRs thoughts. The attached is very superficial but envisages £80m capex.

I struggle to see £80m on a railway paralleled by a motorway as good value over bus priority work. Off peak its only 5 mins faster than the X43 bus which is a quality offering.

It does suggest reopening Stubbins and Ewood Bridge, both of those had steps to the platforms
