GWR 7029. Cable theft being reported between Solihull and Dorridge. Some trains cancelled. Not sure if it will affect steam tour.

 

7029 at Snow Hill. Chaos this morning. Attempted cable theft.

 

Yeah, the Castles are prohibited through Platform 1. Only 2 and 3 are permitted.

 

Really motoring through Banbury, about 30min late.
Quick phone pic as I was actually awaiting a service train and was expecting it to have come through before I got there.

 

We were doing 77 through Banbury. I said to people nearby "I hope someone got a picture of that!"

 

Approaching Bentley Heath Crossing, not going full pelt as it was going to cross over to go through platform 3 at Dorridge.

Here's my footage of Clun Castle at speed powering and whistling through Swindon on the Fast Line. A dream come true for me, a Great Western Castle flying through an iconic station like Swindon. Enjoy the video.

 

Action from this weeks outings, oh, and Clun's mighty climb of Hatton Bank last night.

 

Did anyone else receive an email from Vintage Trains on 21 May about the "Return to Steam Celebration"? It included the following.

"This time, you will be able to join the train at Birmingham Snow Hill, Tyseley Mainline station or Widney Manor station and enjoy a trip steam hauled throughout from Birmingham to Cardiff, via Didcot, running down Hatton bank to Oxford and Swindon, where we will join Brunel’s Great Western Main Line and then take the South Wales and Bristol direct line via Bristol Parkway and Severn Tunnel and run to Cardiff, where we will pause to visit the City. And what is more, our trip will be steam hauled for the entire return journey including a trip up Hatton Bank on the return."

I almost booked.

An absolutely brilliant day from start to finish and a fantastic performance from Clun (as usual).
