There are two kinds of LMS class 8 locos: Lizzie’s (2 are preserved) and Duchesses (3 are preserved). Only one of those locos (6233) is currently operational. Of the other 4 only 1 (6201) has any chance of being operational and has been in recent years. Being an LNER man my 2 favourite non LNER locos are 6201 & 6233. I was pleased to see 6233 revert to LMS red (my favourite livery by far) in autumn 2018 and 6201 return in Spring 2019. Of course what happened to 6201 last year was sad and it makes me think that it’s best hope of steaming again is a whole new ownership group. An agreement with Saphos akin to the one with N0 7 might not be a bad idea. 6201 should be on the mainline even more so with 46203 unlikely to ever run again.

Reading this thread herein lies part of the problem as the group and individual have become rather intertwined with one reaching the stage of being the embodiment of the other.

The 'publicity' photos linked above in Post #774 seem to concentrate as much (if not more) on the man than the machine, rather reinforcing the possible misconception that its a one man band?

Link included again for completeness to avoid people having to trawl back through the thread! https://www.facebook.com/100058251992042/posts/312080710743660/

I wonder if people should consider whether the sort of criticism, verging at the least on personal abuse, seen on this thread is more likely to bring the end result the posters apparently want, or the reverse.

The criticism here seems to me more aimed at the relationships between the individual, the organisation and the locomotive than at the individual himself. And this isn't the only thread with comments about individuals apparently acting as dictators.

Thanks Ralph, you certainly knew she was on the way especially as Gordon Hodgson was driving in most of the shots.

No idea what it says as I don't read it, but latest Trackside Magazine suggests work has started at Carnforth?

They definitely need a second engine capable of working the air braked Northern Belle. Will it be green this time?

Work has started at Carnforth and there may be a long term loan.

I don't actually mind what colour she is out shopped in. It would just be great to travel behind a fully fit Princess Elizabeth
