60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley Overhaul

Dad said some sort of problem with its air brakes , so some sort of test with the Mk3’s again.

After the morning rain the weather promised to improve for the rest of what should be the final day of test runs for the A4. The sun didn't play ball however disappearing as 4498 approached Hampton Loade for the token exchange. The last run of the day seemed to avoid the sun too.

RTT has a 'VAR' entry for the LSL test path on Tuesday 26th, but so far only as far as Coton Hill. Test run ?

Absolutely! We've had a bit over two years with no A4 out on the main line. I count myself lucky to have been behind UoSA in February 2020 and to have a booking for SNG this May.

 

Talking of Aberdeen it would be wonderful to see SNG go to Aberdeen at some point. Saphos had planned a tour to Aberdeen last year but that was cancelled because of operational difficulties. Also I think the intention was to use N0 7 if it was available but it wasn’t.

 

I’d be curious to know what the operational difficulties are. We have had quite a few successful tours in recent years, in fact I’m pretty sure 2x37s were in Aberdeen with a tour just the other day.

 

The fact that all LSL/DB Cargo are based in England (mostly middle or southern England) and have no route knowledge in Scotland.

 

26th April will see her in light steam for the movement back to Crewe, diesel hauled.
A period of preparation for the mainline test run will then follow.
Dates for that will be advised as and when....

Not the most reliable source, but Rail Advent is describing this move as a ‘Loaded Test Run’ which implies 4498 will be on the front of the train. Does anyone know if this is the case or not?

From what I've heard, it'll be a similar format to how Britannia left the SVR

 

So does that mean it is a loaded test run with 4498 on the front?
If so, I will probably venture forth to the Midlands to see it.
