An excellent performance from a dedicated crew with a locomotive that has fully repaid the commitment of the WCRC team - David Smith can be proud of what he has produced and if Saturday's Blue Riband challenge is any guide then the Blue Riband should be winging its way to Carnforth any time soon.

With all the action in the North on Saturday it does tend to make one wonder at the attention that is being given to the new kid on the block when the oldies are still proving to be such goldies.

I think you might be getting carried away in the moment Fred. Do you really think that 46115 will beat the likes of 71000, 46229, or 60532 with load 12+? I don't think she stands a chance, unless the Blue Riband includes a 'sound' factor ;-) Anyhow, after yesterday, I think I have a new favourite engine. Simply awesome. Well done David Smith and all involved in her restoration.

I know this was probably a superb run south, but when you travel all the way up to Garsdale and arrive nearly half an hour before it's scheduled to pass through, and it passes over the bridge in front of you as you pull up, can I be forgiven for being a bit miffed #-o
Did manage to catch Tornado at Colton in the morning =P~

You weren't the guy in the silver car that screeched to a halt as we came over the viaduct by any chance?

My apologises for the delay in posting. This is the first chance I’ve had to process my pictures from Saturdays long trip out. Firstly, No.46115 can seen leaving Settle. I had planned to be at Helwith bridge but decided against it at the last minute for the fear of getting a backlit shot.

Then, after 2hrs of standing around in the snow (Nice to meet you again Matt), No.46115 storms past Birkett Common. This was my first ever trip to the S&C which won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Nope, that wasn't me, I'd just pulled up at the bottom of the row of cottages leading up to the platform and I could hear the train coming, but my jacket and camera were in the boot ](*,)

Chaps the standard of photos and clips in this thread defies belief ! =D>

I am however concerned that this might have been the "Holy grail" and i was'nt there ! Perfect loco in top order, the right stock, on the finest line in the country in perfect weather conditions. The bar is now set very high indeed !
    Thanks all for sharing........Matt.

This thread has been a joy to look at with some outstanding photo's and videos of what must have been a superb run. =D> =D> Bravo to WCRC and all of the brave souls that headed out to photograph 46115 in fine form.

Somewhat belatedly, here is my video of this run - a run destined to be etched on the minds of all that were on or out to see no doubt. The video shows the train in Dentdale in the morning and breasting Ais Gill Summit on the return.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ5aMX7HMS4

Looking at the record books, 46115 was only 3mins 57 seconds behind 46229's Blue Riband record of August 1993 (taking the section as Appleby-Ais Gill Summit). That's quite an achievement for a significantly less powerful loco., and certainly the best performance we've seen on the S&C for quite some time. A record for a none-Pacific loco hauling 12? :-k
