H tank 263 was bought into the workshop for and work began stipping parts for the boiler lift.

The foundation ring was being re-riveted on the boiler from B2473 (Birch Grove). The radial truck was re-assembled ready for putting back underneath the engine. Work continued on its motion, machining new gudgeon pins.

The boiler for 1178 had more repairs to its foundation ring prior to fitting new plate work.

The new frame extensions for 84030 were being drilled.

Sounds like a lot is going on! And good news to getting some locos back out into traffic!!! =D> Any timespan?

Seriously??? Do they have a time linit to expand the fleet of running locos?

 

How about putting this under "loco information"?

 

Not that I am aware, the 01 will be coming out soon so I guess something to replace that ASAP in the medium loco front would help but that would be in the shape of the E4.

 

If there's one thing that can be relied on to not go to plan timings wise, it's restoring a steam engine...seriously, what's the point in setting a date when it's just as likely to end up being moved back constantly, as happened with 34059.

 

Had a date been set then for 34059, please do enlighten us?

You ain't seen nothing yet! Meanwhile here is what 34059 looked like last time she ran...

 

Late 2006 at one point I remember, which became Easter 2007, then late 2007, then Easter 2008...

 

I think the message her for all to observe is, patience.

 

I'm really pleased the H class has made it into the works. I'm really looking forward to seeing an engine I actually remember from BR days on the East Grinstead - Three Bridges line back in traffic. It'll be great to see the old girl back at East Grinstead in due course.

 

Yep quite agree it will be great to see the H class back in steam and please please let's see her outshopped in a different livery for once! Whilst the H does look nice in SECR livery please let's have her in lined black for the first couple of years just for a change. Think of the different authentic train combinations we could pair with the H in lined black - the 2 blood & custards & Bullied Brake, 4 Bullieds, 4 Mark 1's and the set of BR engineers wagons. In the same old SECR livery yet again all we could do is pair the loco with a few Pre-Grouping wagons and perhaps double-head with the C, but that's pretty much it as the SECR carriages i.e. 100 Seaters and Birdcage Brake are in or to be outshopped in SR olive green. As we saw with the E4 once it was repainted in lined black - 1 charter with it in LBSC umber, 8-10 charters with it in BR livery and highly popular with the enthusiasts.

 

Credit where due David, you never stop, do you... ;-)

 

Cheers Chris, as Derek Trotter would say "he who dares, wins" lol. \/ But I guess joking aside I'm sure the H will probably be outshopped again in SECR livery no matter how much a beg and plead on here and the Bluebell e-mail group. It just would be nice to see the loco in a different identity whether it be BR lined black or SR olive green, we'll just have to wait and see but I'm personally 99% certain it will be in SECR livery again.

 

What you need to remember, David, is the crucial thing at the moment is getting them working, once we have enough running, then we can decide what livery to run 'em in...
