Not often I watch drone footage but this was as good as it gets especially with the loco soundtrack rather than just nothing or daft music .

Good stuff from Mark and his fiancée, looking at the drone footage makes me think of the navvies who lived and died building the S&C. It's a wild land up there., nice in summer but bleak as hell in winter.

Absolutely spectacular. This view clearly shows the scale and ruggedness of a landscape that simply dwarfs the train. How did anyone conceive and design this exact route, that traverses a wide valley, is crossed by fast flowing watercourses before plunging into the hillside and all the while climbing at 1/100? Then men armed with picks and shovels had to build it in what were often the harshest of conditions. Victorian civil engineering at its very best.

If you think from the north, the crux of the route is really Mallerstang, Dandry Mire ( Wensleydale/Garsdale/Eden), then the shelf above Dentdale. I can't think of another route through between Sedbergh/Lune Gorge and far to the east, probably Leyburn. Blea Moor tunnel and Ribblehead viaduct are the price which had to be paid to get from D ent Head to Ribblehead. That's competition!

An interesting video I was directed to by a friend, great CME shots. Mind you the Blue Pullman shots at the end, Lancaster to Shawford (258 miles per Google) must be bordering on one of the longest "chases" of a train. Maybe Ms Thunberg would not approve!

She'd be even more hacked off if she knew the car that was being driven to do it was a thirsty diesel Volkswagen...

We didn't plan to chase it from Lancaster to Shawford, but having been delayed at Keele services by the longest queue in the country for food, we ended up getting to junction 11 on the M3 (the junction for Shawford and, conveniently, home) with about 15 minutes before the Blue Pullman so thought we might as well.

My shot from Lancaster of 45627 is below:

Beating a steam tour with water stops etc is one thing. Beating an HST over that distance impressive, even if its route around London was some circuitous.

That's a great shot, it's a pity there does not appear to be a video from there.

Just had it confirmed that Tangmere has passed its FTR today and will lead Leander on the CME tomorrow. Full paint job completed, complete with nameplate and RAF badge.

Has there ever been an occasion where this combo worked in steam days? (certainly not on the Somerset & Dorset). <BJ>
