I've just put another Swiss video on YouTube. This time it's a train ride in a vintage steam train between between the Luzern Transport Museum and Küssnacht am Rigi in 1997 - the year of the SBB 150 celebrations. The first railway in Switzerland between Zürich and Baden, the so called 'Spanisch Brötli Bahn' was open in 1847.

    Hope you like it.

    TTFN,

    Ron.

It's amazing to think it's occasionally possible to travel on an electrified mainline on a train fitted with only hand brakes! I've never had the pleasure of a trip beyond the replica 4-2-0, but I did go a few years when Ec 2/5 no. 28 Genf, an 0-4-6T from 1858 was in use, complete with the replica stock.

Next year is the 175th anniversary of the Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn between Zurich and Baden. It seems there will be 5 different weekends of celebrations around the country, with some extra events between Baden and Zurich in August. Hopefully we'll be allowed to travel by then.

As soon as I see anything concrete, I'll post on NP. Even the Swiss equivalent forum doesn't seem to know anything yet, and other than a few Gotthard trips there's nothing on SBB Historic either.

I'll ask around and keep a look out too. If I see or hear about anything, I'll also put a message on here.

No. 28 "Genf" pushing the stock out of Zürich Hbf in August 2009. It's like a terminus version of Clapham Junction, only more complicated. Track and trains everywhere, and there we were, trundling through the middle of it all on a Sunday evening in a open wagon as part of a train only fitted with handbrakes!

Another example of how Swiss railways are a world away from ours. A 155mph high speed EMU heading away from Zürich, passing steam railcar CZm 1/2 Nr. 31. A tiny, 4-wheeled steam railcar with only one powered axle. I can only assume SBB's track circuits are a lot more reliable than the ones in the UK!
