Blue Pullman Revival

You can see to a degree the parentage of the HST/125 to the original Blue Pullman. Especially when you look at/see a photo like yours John. Looking back it's somewhat regretable that back in the 70s' my dad got some model railway stock that included a Hornby Dublo [early and detailed for the time]plastic bodied green classs 20 and Triang Blue Pullman which he/we let go arrrrrrr!

 

Agreed! When the Mk3 coaches first appeared, I thought 'Blue Pullman design!'

 

That livery looks very good!

 

It does, but I still think it's a shade or two lighter than the original (at least in my memory box).

 

I suspect that you are correct - here is a very poor picture taken at Paddington in 1966 of one of the original sets.

IIRC the official colour was Nanking Blue - a slightly darker shade than currently in vogue.

 

I'm fairly sure @5944 was referring to the recent addition of the yellow panel...I know I certainly was! As for the shade of blue...see my post #64

 

I'm presuming that it is a spare panel fitted for some reason and will either be replaced or painted in the near future.

 

It's not just the emergency coupling access hatch, the panel around it has also been repainted. And according to the Flickr caption, it's both ends. There has been talk that the headlights might not be entirely compliant, so I hope this is just a temporary solution.

So why did they change the other end as well? (Unless they put the "shunt" into shunting accident...)

 

Doubtful. I've photographed it since the damage and the yellow panels were not there. I think #72 is the most likely reason. They'll just have to bite the bullet and fit a compliant headlight to get rid of the yellow eyesore!

 

Makes me wonder who signed it off originally as being compliant?

 

Someone who presumed "Grandfather Rights" perchance ?

 

Doubt it as the "no yellow ends" is a new policy.
