Does anyone have any scanned pics of Maitland when she was painted black in the late 80s please?

If you look in Stan Basnett's book on the post nationalisation IMR you will see a picture. I'm sure Stan wouldn't object to me posting it here, if you want a better quality image then buy the books, some great pictures in them... From memory the Black was for a TV production of "The Ginger Tree".

Mannin is progressing at a steady rate from what I've seen...

She looks quite handsome! It would be fun to turn out one of the Peacocks in black with full LNWR-style lining for a spell...it would be something different and would go equally well with purple lake or red-and-cream coaches. Or would this arouse as much ire as Hutchinson's infamous blue livery?

AIUI the policy is to present the fleet in different historical IMR liveries - Holly green 1873 - 1946, Indian red 1946 - 1967, Ailsa green 1967 - 1978 ish, and, of course, MNR red on Caledonia. Further than this locos will be restored as they were at a particular time period so recently restored No4 shows how it was in 1955 in Indian red with Salter safety valves etc. When No11 returns from Statfold, hopefully before the end of the season it will be as it was in 1967 in Ailsa green.
The heavy passenger loads this Summer (see photo below) have highlighted a shortage of serviceable carriages despite recently restored 'pairs' F62 re-joining the fleet. 'Pairs' F63 replaced it at Stanegate for a similar restoration. Small F F15 restored 'in house' should re-enter traffic shortly - new wheelsets were being fitted recently. F11 (1881) is currently in the joiners' shop having a full rebuild after many years in traffic. Some preliminary work has even taken place on long-stored F21 originally sold to the WHHR in the 70's and returned via Dromod many years ago.

Thanks Ray. I should emphasise that my suggestion of a black loco was firmly tongue-in-cheek!

That is great news re. The carriage fleet. Well, maybe not for the operating staff, but not having enough coaches to cope with demand is a nice problem to have! Let's hope the heavy loadings continue and that long-stored vehicles like F21 will, indeed, see the light of day again.

I actually rather liked the blue on 12, it was the cab I wasn't a fan of. The Blue always reminded me somewhat of a CR livery. For some reason there didn't seem to be quiet the same vitriol directed towards 4/15 in Blue even though it supplanted the fortunately now retored MNR livery. Which seems strange to me as you have umpteen BP's in historically correct liveries but only one in MNR livery. I wonder if Hutchinson/CR Blue would have been better recieved on a loco which maintained the BP "House" rather than a b@stardised version of the Mannin Cab?...

Marshall says Holly Green...my understanding was the correct term was Brunswick Green... presumable referring to the same shade of Green as worn by some of the "Black Brunswickers" (such as the sharpshooters) in the Napoleon's war?...

S'pose one might describe 'Brunswick Green' in terms of plants, but trickier t'other way round, given more folk'll be familiar with holly than with the minutiae of superannuated militatia.

However Sutherland's current livery is described, it looks magnificent and that'll do for me! :)

In case it has slipped 'under the radar' it is only 5 weeks to our first Winter Heritage Transport Festival - hopefully the weather will be kind and the event will be well supported.
I've attached a pdf of the leaflet rather than precis it all here. One detail that may be easily missed (it is in very small type) were the dates for next year's Rush Hour On The Railways 15-18 April and Heritage Transport Festival 27-31 July. It is good to see the dates being announced well ahead so that intending visitors can grab the cheaper fares and accommodation.
Preliminary planning talks re IMR 150 in 2023 have already taken place and I am reliably informed that 'The Boss' would like to have 7 locos available for the event.....

    7 locos? Lets see, 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16 would be my guess as the currently serviceable fleet, plus those under active restoration (10, 11, 12) / rumoured restoration (16). I just hope that 2 of those 7 aren't 18 and 21...
I suppose there's even the possibility of a visitor now, with Blythe from Southwold nearing completion (and with compatible couplings). Somehow I doubt, even if restoration is going to happen, that MNR3 / IMR14 will be ready by 2023!

I read somewhere recently that the elusive No. 14 is only having a cosmetic restoration, I hope that the report is inaccurate and that she will be returned to steam.
But, I suppose everything regarding No. 14 is surrounded with secrecy!

A couple of photos recently posted on the Glos Warks Blog suggest otherwise........ Apparently the G&WR uses a traditional foundry for cast iron posts etc and, whilst there, one of their members spotted the IMR's cylinder pattern and an Indian Red painted cylinder which appears to be from No14 EDIT: Further investigation suggests that the cylinders are No11's old ones (different lining colour). But why are N011''s old ones there????

I agree with your logic but it will be a real shame if No. 8 misses the party. It would be very sad to have not a single example of the "Small Peacocks" at work during the anniversary year.

Are we to understand purdah is now rescinded? :Wideyed:
That was my belief, had been for many moons. Now, I'm just plain confused! See immediately above.

OK, spill the beans @marshall5, where's the 'Sharpie' hidden?
