The GWSR have been ahead of the SVR all through the pandemic time. GWSR £25 for a single person journey in a seating bay for 4 (and enjoyed on a number of occasions). SVR on the Sightseer (chosen because the timing is suitable for me) £100 for a compartment. No chance! So, it's back to the GWSR for me.

There are single traveller tickets available, might be worth giving a ring.

Too early for me. It needs to be the Sightseer. Oh well, next year, maybe.

There has been more flexibility on the day, hence my suggestion of giving a ring. The Sightseer is the same set as the Adventurer, just the middle KR-BH round trip.

I've done three more trips on the GWSR since my last post. Bought lunch and snacks on all of them as well. All that money the SVR is missing out on. I'm resigned to the fact it will be next year before they'll allow me to travel with them again from Kidderminster. Yes people have mentioned that tip about the Sightseer but if it's not on their website as selling single tickets then I'm not going to jump through hoops to try and wrangle a ticket. They either want my money or they don't.

Funnily enough my Dad (SVR shareholder and Volunteer) said the same kind of thing yesterday.

Single traveller tickets now available on the Explorer (11.00 ex-KR) as per SVR official FB and the ticket office part of the website.

Fantastic news. That's my weekend sorted then. How ironic that it happened just after the subject was debated here on NatPres. The power of the Internet!

I've just posted above the link to Branch Lines

It has notes from the GM about local trains, an item on the gala and the MPD notes touch on difficulties Covid has been causing. Comments in there resonate with discussions in here, people are moving at different speeds, the SVR's looked in detail about mixing 'hop on hop off' and excursion services and found it's not feasible, and different railways have different complexities and are finding different solutions.

{Personal note} I don't think there's a right answer and I can understand why the SVR has taken the decisions it has, but opinion's divided and it won't please many. I'm just grateful they have to make these decisions and I can enjoy my hobby in peace.

    Another great read Patrick.
Also good to read about the resumption of hop on - hop off.

I really annoyed that the SVR why the resevered system remains in place during the Gala. Before everyone thinks Im an arse... I was supposed to be going to the 2018 Gala but got conned out of it by my manage and my father who wanted me to take time off to help him after an operation... only for him to cancelled said operation. I was barred from booking time of the 2019 Gala. 2020 wasn't a problem cause that manager left but covid came along. Now things are much more positive the railway themselves have stopped me cause if I went all for four days like I intended I be pay for a lot more then I would done back in 2018 without the ability to look round Bridgnorth town or anything like that. I could go for one day but an 6 hour train journey to get there in the first place (where the passengers on there won't be soical distancing) and then back just for one day is very off putting.

Maybe I should give up of ever going to the stupid gala clearly Im not meant to go.

Good to see the lessons learned from Llangollen and WSR trials and tribulations of the last years aren’t applicable to the current SVR(H) management team.

latest shareholder news accuses shareholders of being freeloaders, despite many supporting the Fight Back Fund that raised around £1 million.

And so as they have cost the railway £270k+, they now need to pay upwards of £400 per year in order to keep their benefits. What they don’t state in the newsletter is shareholding’s have increased by £468k in the last 18 months..! These figures also don’t take into account any secondary spending such freeloaders contribute…

Excellent example of how not to manage volunteers and members, and isolate them from your cause in your hour of need.

Whilst we all expected the benefit system to change, this is a huge smack in the face and I hope many more join those of us now refusing to support the SVR with any more donations until they learn to show appreciation.

the railway sadly seems to be taking steps backwards especially in its engagement , acting first and then getting upset when the audience quite reasonably takes umbridge . I haven't travelled this year on the SVR (despite having a shareholder) for a number of reasons , those who know me will guess why . I go to railways who make me welcome
