I think you may be mis reading the ticketing arrangements to arrive at a £160 cost and wouldn't want people to be discouraged from visiting. From the view fares tab on the timetables page
    Reopening Fares 2021
£40 for a compartment for up to 4 people for a return trip from either Sheringham or Holt.

Additional Adults £10 each or Children (3-15) £5 each, up to a maximum of 6 people per compartment.

Whilst still steep if on your own much better that £160 and I wonder if some sort of deal might be agreed with staff at quieter times on the basis that any revenue is better than none if a compartment remains unsold on the day.

Herald, correct but I would be driving nearly three hours from the South for a visit so would want a whole day on the railway hence four return trips and hence the £160. I have no problem with this as the NNR like all heritage railways has to make up for the last year of heavily reduced income and reduced carriage capacity and full compartments are always better than single occupancy.

I have however, decided to definitely visit this week for the new DMU service which starts today and is only £10 for a round trip per person. Very much looking forward to it as have been getting cabin fever and heritage withdrawal symptom's in recent weeks. Now I just have to book the weather......

I had a good trip in the end. Actually managed to avoid the rain. It was a bit frustrating having to leave the train and re check-in for each leg of the journey but hopefully we won't have to do that for much longer. I got put onto the steam for one trip and rode in the Suburban carriage set behind the WD 2-10-0. In the multi-doored open Suburban carriage the NNR had installed semi-permanent plywood bulkheads to convert it to full separate compartments which I thought worked well. Always a pleasure to visit the NNR and I have two further visits planned this year.

As no one else has commented I'll post these. This past weekend the NNR held its first post-Covid event, a successful Mixed Traction Gala based on the home fleet. Three newly restored items of stock entered service:
    i) The M&GN Society's Class 31 D5631 made its debut after a four years of repairs to engine, electrics, and bodywork, and finally repainting. It's also received a new steam heat boiler but that isn't quite finsihed just yet.
ii) Mk1 BCK 21224 (ex-Regency Rail) newly outshopped ont he NNR for the first time in Crimson and Cream. and
iii) BR Vanwide B784254 - previously on the Mid-Norfolk Railway.

Any clues please as to what is operating on the line at the moment? Particularly interested in the steam services on 28th August if that is something that is known up front.

Today has seen 92203 and 76084 in service. Next week should be WD 90775 and B12 8572 though Y14 564 was being warmed through this afternoon. Not sure yet what’s planned for 28th.

That's great thanks. A steam charter is due in Norwich on the 28th so there may be extra visitors at Sheringham! If the roster is published on-line then that link would be useful otherwise a post on here when known would be appreciated.

This week's NNR Carriage & Wagon Blog celebrates the completion of the Class 31, albeit a week or so late!

The 31 looks superb, well done to all involved :)
Quick question, does it now have working headcode boxes at both ends?

Sorry hate to be that guy:confused:

Cheers bud, that’s me dreaming of a rather sexy threesome involving myself, 6732, 5631 and a dirty weekend over the border in North Norfolk shortly :);)

I'm struck by the gorgeous condition, and attention to detail, of the carriages you all are turning out - to the point where I wonder if, as with some contemporary classic car restorations, you're achieving a level of quality that the originals themselves didn't reach 'back in the day'! A good 'problem' to have, of course!

Wonderfully detailed updates, thanks very much for the time and energy needed to post them.

Hi all, quick question myself and the missus are planning a date day on the East Coast on Sunday I have suggested Sheringham/Cromer and looking at the North Norfolk’s Website it says that that there’s a diesel working vice rail car the last 2 trips on the red timetable, would love to know what it is as this, as this is a deal sealer, website as ever is US as is this new telephone system. Can someone please help? Guessing it’s either the 31 or 37? Very happy with either, it would just be nice to know.
