Thread drift on top of thread drift, and paint froth into the bargain, but 80135 looks great in green.

According to the Mogul website 806 was "River Torridge", not such an inspiring name?

If you think that, you'll love Irish class 201, No.211's moniker. Either look it up, or translate Abhainn na Suca The loco carries nameplates in English and Irish. ;)

    River Piddle?

A Navy Officer was talking about how warships were named, the 'Nomenclature' team included members of the 'lower deck' to hopefully avoid any inadvertent whoopsies

Not a fan of naming non named locos, but tourist’s like them, how about some local names for the U’s and N? St Aldhelms Head, Peveril Point, Durdle Door for example.

I feel the same about chime whistles, where chime whistles oughtn't to be.

According to the website 31806 only had the River Torridge name for 2 years after it was built in 1926 and was converted into a U class with a tender. The train management had changed and just used numbers. In 1949 looks like the livery was changed from green to black.
So the Swanage railway are correct in no name and a black livery to represent the 50s and 60s era (rather than the 20s and 30s). But 257 Squadron, and soon to be restored Eddystone , also represent that era with names.
80104 does not have a name but the boiler certification expires May, presume the steam test was just in case it might be used before an overhaul?.

To be restored 563, representing the Victorian era in green, never had a name, so ideally should not be named, but can see the temptation to give it an official name for tourists.

After the Sevenoaks crash in 1927 the Southern Railway removed the names from the rebuilt River class tanks. It is believed that this was done to stop passengers and the press associating the locos with the accident

Do you know for a fact the boiler certificate expires in May? If it has had a recent boiler test, it is possible that that is valid for the normal year and the loco therefore does more than ten years on the nominal “ten yearly”.

80104's boiler certificate runs out mid-May. It is currently being steam tested with a view to using it for staff training/refreshers prior to reopening, and subsequently to the limit of its ticket. All subject to being fit to run. It hasn't been steamed since this time last year!
