Needs a complete new boiler & firebox (amongst other things!)

Some may recognise this as the loco that Stuart Reeder purchased and moved around the country a few years ago before giving up on.

NB: I have no connection with the loco or the sale - information provided 'as is'

I think what it really needs is a new loco....

Lol. Might be useful to someone wanting a static display

It did have a buyer some months ago . Unfortunately the previous owner managed to meddle and sale ended . At least s smaller boiler is in the feasible category to build anew

Feasible, yes. Desirable though? It's hardly like this is a unique or interesting design of engine, looks like a pretty standard Barclay 0-4-0ST from what I can see (Disclaimer, I have little to no knowledge of Andrew Barclay 0-4-0STs beyond what they tend to look like!) If you had the money to buy this and then build a brand new boiler, as well as overhauling what still remains of this, I'd imagine you probably also have the money for something else of similar size that needs far less being built from scratch and could give you the satisfaction of being back in steam sooner. Or maybe I'm just displaying my total ignorance with that comment!
Have there been many locos around this size that have had new boilers built for them in preservation? I think one or both of the IoW Terriers may have, but one could argue they have a far higher interest / historical significance factor (the latter especially from the IoW perspective)

Didn't a previous owner use this loco as a spare parts source for his other Barclay so this is really a collection of the parts which were in the poorest condition? I wouldn't have thought that this loco has much of a future except as a static display or for spares. ISTR someone was looking for a Barclay steam brake cylinder for example.

Sir Berkeley, Matthew Murray and Brookes No.1 at the Middleton Railway have all had new boilers in this century.

Charwelton is also having a new boiler made although it is somewhat larger. I think a Tanfield loco has also had one. The narrow gauge have been doing it for years and, although generally smaller, some, such as the Fairlies and Isle of Man locos are probably on a par with a small Barclay. New boilers are becoming more of the norm as time goes on. I'd hazard a guess at £80K for a new boiler for that Barclay, possibly a bit less if it is all welded and less still if you go for a square cornered 'box. That is usually frowned upon by the traditionalists but should be no problem with a small boiler.

Charwelton is having a BIG bucket of money thrown at it by it's owners, and I applaud them for doing so, rather than parking it in a siding somewhere, and going off and buying another engine that still runs. Charwelton is a great engine when it's fit, and it has come to our rescue on quite a few occasions!

Off topic still, but the 0-8-0 Polish tank had a new boiler, I believe made by the Flour Mill (bit I could be wrong).

This is reportedly the first superheated standard gauge boiler made in the UK in preservation

Which one? I believe the underframe of the inspection saloon went to the Swindon & Cricklade, not sure about the sleeper as it had asbestos and I'm pretty sure SR didn't have the money to pay for its removal.

Interesting that he interfered with the potential sale of the loco-did he somehow think he was owed money?! I understood that the loco had been taken as payment when SR couldnt pay the bills-is that not correct?
