It will be interesting to see how much it sells for. I doubt if there is much of a market for small standard gauge locos; narrow gauge ones of similar weight would be worth more because they are handier as rich man's toys (so I am told.....). I'd say £3,000 tops.

Needing a complete new firebox, the purchase price is likely to be only the start of the spending.... It's a shame, because a lot of lines are trying to move away from the smaller engines. Lines like the Tanfield and Foxfield prove how truly spectacular the small engines can be, if used right!

If it is a W5 then it will be quite a useful loco, looks like a 14". Not got my IRS book to hand though so not sure! Reckon on £30k+ to return to steam though #-o

One day to go and current bid is £2,810. Prices on eBay auctions usually increase at last minute, so I reckon this could go up to £5,000.

Thats not a bad price for almost a complete loco? i wonder what the likely cost will be to overhaul it? And the big question I have to ask is who has bought it?

    Lots.

Looking at the photos there's a new firebox for starters (depending obviously on the condition of the rest of the boiler, may be just as easy to start afresh), no boiler fittings, platework probably only fit for patterns; there will be a reason its been a bit of a nomadic loco in preservation (Bodmin, Swanage).
