Broadway Station nearly became a dogs dinner of inauthentic design, a mish mash of modern materials because the Chairman at the time was also the Project Manager and tried to force through a cheap off the peg solution instead of a more careful holistic preservation approach.

It would seem the Llangolen Railway have learnt nothing from the furore that ensued in that instamce. Nor from the governance issues it exposed.

Fortunately wiser counsels saw an a station emerge that became widely admired and won prizes.
Hopefully the same can happen here.

I doubt it, looking how close a lot of it is to completion. Plus bear in mind they've just launched an appeal for £15k for bridge repairs, they're not exactly rolling in spare cash.

Specific to this issue, my mention of potential HRA involvement (and please note I was careful to use the phrase 'under the ægis of', rather than suggesting directly lumbering that august body with yet another task) would be by way of something of an "honest broker". If the notion of some touchstone guidelines (emphatically not regulations), for lines and/or specific projects, containing tried and tested optimal practices strikes folks as a useful one, but feels some alternative umbrella better suits the task, please suggest away. Bob alone knows, the sheer effort involved, from outline planning to final handover of any significant project is onerous (and expensive!) enough, without having to re-invent the wheel every time.

Firstly, any trolls known on the abuse of Liz, who are members of the railway, should be banished from the railway, this behaviour is despicable and wrong. If its from unknowns, then it's upto Liz to report to the relevant authorities.
We all know the Llangollen has ran into financial trouble, and is just in Wales so next year may have more losses. Perhaps just continuing as is until things are better in a few years time? Perhaps now is not the time , but perhaps a future hlf backed fund to recreate original Corwen(whose goods shed and station building still exist and could be moved?), complete with recreation of the engine shed and turntable, may be a long term ambition?

No. That's how they do it on the WSR.
Any trolls who are members of the railway should be disciplined in the proper way following a proper hearing using the railway's relevant procedures.

And just for the record (in case anyone thinks I am defending the abusive behaviour), it is not acceptable to send abusive messages just because you disagree with someone. Have a discussion about the problem and if you still can't agree on a resolution, walk away. Life's too short.

Apologies, it was meant as a light hearted quip rather than sarcasm but that does not necessarily come across in writing. I will admit I was getting frustrated that it was the third time you had posted basically the same incorrect statement relating to the validity of directors resignations. I may know little about locos, or railways but I do know this area of company law.

Yes, no problem, I guess we were both getting a bit... My opinion was based on experience of an organisation where it was not permitted to have less than the minimum. If one wished to resign but that would have caused the numbers to fall below minimum it couldn't happen until a replacement was found and in place beforehand. I guess that must have been stipulated in the articles then rather than general company law.
I believe they had had a bad experience in the past with someone 'doing a dirty' then chucking in his resignation and disappearing leaving the rest of them to pick up the pieces (and the cost).

It was a very low bridge anyway and the road has been raised since it was demolished.

Don’t get the need for a new group, when surely they have access to the main page?

However credit where credit’s due, the document linked in there is the first real piece of honesty we’ve seen to the full membership for a long time. I hope this continues, though how the services can make up for the losses of the engineering is going to be a real challenge.

A touch of realism about expensive to stage monster galas would be a good start. They should focus instead on imaginative ways of using what they have. Be prepared also to see some engines possibly move on to more prosperous locations. It's no consolation to say so but I don't think that they are the only railway in serious trouble (and when I say that I'm not thinking of the WSR!).

Thanks; my comment was about the fact that as a non Facebook user, I can’t access it without a Facebook account. I wasn’t sure if it was just that, or whether would be visitors had also to be permitted access.

Whilst the point you make is not untrue, I don’t get the relevance to Llangollen?

They haven’t organised big expensive galas in recent years (6880 have), and they only just have enough locos to cover normal services (5199, 3802, Jennifer and then 6430 awaiting repairs) hence the hire of 7822 for the summer.

There’s enough sticks to beat LR with without borrowing someone else’s.

My compliments to those that prepared that statement, it is very clear about both the current situation and the steps that will be taken. If I may comment on just one thing that leaps out at me in that statement as highlighting the depth of the issues faced by the railway, it's the sentence "The PLC and Trust finance directors are still working on gaining full control of bank accounts and are still reviewing the asset and liability position, this is a summary of what has been confirmed."

The announcement shared earlier is at least brutal in its honesty and a refreshing change . It is a sorry state of affairs that the railway has allowed itself to get into . The recent telegraph article , I can't help but feel was a regrettable closing chapter in terms of those who have held office whilst the line has got to this point . In the current situation £600k is a hell of debt to extricate yourself from
