MSN and Shillingstone have both already been ruled out a long time ago due to lack of space/length of line for 53808

I thjnk the east Somerset railway has a lot of space. The watercress line won’t want to build a museum as its full up any way last time I went.

Apologies, I should have been clearer, I was attempting to continue the conversation about a realistic destination for Kilmersden.

I’m glad you know better than those running the MHR and S&DRT.

So why have the MHR offered the space and made encouraging noises about doing so?

I think it is confusing to equate the location of 53808 with the rest of the S&DRT's assets - there is no need for them to be co-located.

Given the apparent popularity of 'Joyce' at MSN, then Kilmersdon might prove very popular there too, especially as it was a Radstock engine anyway (even if non-S&DJR). However I doubt that the Prussian Blue livery would fit with the S&DRHT's avowed '1950s atmosphere'.

If the Mid Hants won’t want to build up a museum, then why have they themselves declared this as a possibility?

As far as I can see, the MHR have offered a home for some of the S&D collection, not necessarily all of it. My concern would be that they are looking to cherry pick the best of it and reject a lot of the small artefacts. I cannot see a potential location for a shed equivalent to that at Washford, for example.

Don't you just love it when a post starts a hare running that nobody had thought of and without foundation?

The three boards MHR MHRPS and SDRT have announced they are working together on the details. I can tell you from what I have seen that the relationship is very cordial and I see a determination to do the right thing for all parties. I think it is fair to say that the SDRT themselves don't wish to relocate all the items to Hampshire. There may be better places for some things. That is something they need to decide. Talk of cherry picking is pretty far wide of the mark. What is important is that the telling of the stories of the S and D and the Mid Hants are enhanced by this move, and I am sure that they will be. It is a complicated thing though and all involved need to be given time to work out the details. I think it is surely positive news?

Why can’t a museum be put in to the old goods shed (Hutchins siding) at Medstead station. The building on the other side of the station car park is a reasonable size and I’m led to believe is owned by the railway.

Indeed. Finding a (temporary) home for stuff is not necessarily the same as meaning that it is all going to be on display in the same way as before. Also , spreading the Trust's assets across more than one site, although it does add to the logistical and resource issues, could be beneficial in the longer term by bringing the Trust to the attention of a more widely-spread audience.

Now, if one were living in fantasy land, and remembering the involvement of the MR as well as the L&SWR, then had the local authorities in and around Bath been more forward-thinking in the past an extension of the AVR at least to Newbridge, but ideally back to at least the former Bath Junction area south-west of the river, with a combined AVR station and S&DRT Museum site would have an idea to savour :)

I bet some fool will want to hang the S&D coach behind it and and take it over the Alps, special hire for S& D members only:eek: just to be able to say they did it or if a few vintage 4 wheelers can be borrowed from another line, use it on Alresford t Ropley shuttles along with dave turn and turn around to give the crew time to re coal and fill up with water.

I made the same observation myself , I wasn't aware the railway own the old goods shed but it would certainly be an option,
