But not a meetings section, the diarying of which is what started this thread; and equally there is still no railwayana thread - a topic which has a large following, and is just as valid a railway interest as any other.

So, can we have one please?
I am sure very many will agree that that would make far more interesting reading than some of the garbage that does find its way onto this site - much of which has no relevance to "Preservation" or to railways or even to anything remotely related to transport!

Yeah, that has my backing as well.

Also, if there is to be a meetings section, it might be an idea to have it as a sub forum to the gala/events one. The problem with the current setup is that the 7000-page witterings that surround certain galas, tend to push the smaller events out of the way.

So why are you posting on this website if it is so much garbage then Mr 32655?.
I suppose this is only to be expected. I would add more but the majority will get the drift even if saddo,s like 32655 will not.

Ah and from where did we crawl from under then?.The usual from those who hide behind a profile, makes them feel superior I guess, sad really, nothing positive to add.

    Have a nice day.

Well, speaking for myself very much as an outside observer, I didn't get your particular 'drift' at all and I strongly suspect that very few others did either! At risk of having my knuckles rapped by one of the 'mods', given the totally unnecessary persistence you display in 'trashing' the clearly valid views of '5596', might I nevertheless respectfully put it to you that it is, perhaps, YOURSELF that is most deserving of being described as a 'saddo'? Indeed, I might even go so far as to suggest that all the indications are that you are one of those (extremely frequent) posters on this site that, at times, do display a severe problem in attitude and, when challenged, find themselves quite unable to back down ... merely for fear of ‘losing face’!

All of that aside, I certainly tend to agree with the views of 'Stepney32655' and '5596' in that there is much absolute 'garbage' (to the majority of readers, I hastily add) published within these pages - this, most fortuitously perhaps, regularly inter-twined with much information that actually is of very real and valuable interest to the majority and which, far more importantly, may not come to be published elsewhere.

There are very many out there who actually are interested in learning about meetings and other such gatherings (like enginemen's reunions or even some railwayana events), that may not necessarily be advertised in the railway press. For myself, I have, for example, on various occasions, attended both of the rarely-publicised Irwell Vale and Stalybridge gatherings, only to find the both of them to be far superior (in both content and atmosphere … if not merely in their actual surroundings!) to most of what actually does get featured monthly at the back of the mags.

Yet, apart from word-of-mouth and, of course, now through National-Preservation, these two are 'gems' that have been, hitherto, almost unknown to the wider fraternity.

The suggestion to establish a separate forum away from the Galas and Events page bears extreme merit and I for one hope that this eminently sensible suggestion is taken on board.

Your point is taken James though in all fairness I did not start the "slagging" off, merely replying to what I considered a negative posting.

Thank you also for giving your real name.

And you are still very welcome to submit your dates to the magazine. The mistake we made in the latest issue is the exception not the rule and most clubs find their listing both beneficial and lucraive in terms of numbers... and it is also free, obviously.

I sent a list of the Irwell Vale Meetings to SR at the begining of the season last year listing all the meetings, but it must have got lost in masses of paperwork that SR receive. Perhaps it's best to advise on a monthly basis by e-mail Danny ?
I guess is too late for the last show of the season with John Leck at Irwell Vale on the 14th March to be put in SR now ??.
As it is John's LAST EVER slide show for one reason or another (a pity as he is such a superb photographer) I'm expecting a large gathering as we always get the biggest crowd of the season when John gives a show.

I'm pleased that at least one person has though fit to write that Irwell Vale has a good selection of shows, it make it worthwhile when I recieve comments like this and is a spur to do even better for the next season, or maybe its our pie and pea suppers that attract. At times I have a job to start the second half as everyone is having a good old natter. At least on a Saturday night its better entertainment than the carbage on Saturday night TV.

I'm sorry that I caused a bit of a heated debate guys, after all it's only a railway slide show!!

Another slide show for you, again a local one in East Lancashire, with a local venue and theme.
'The steam locos and railwaymen of Rosegrove locoshed - Part II' by Barry Atkinson.
This shows follows on from the very successful Part l show in February last year, when twenty ex Rosegrove men attended the show and though I catered for about 40 people to attend at our local church, I had 129 attend with many standing.
This time its an all ticket job on Friday 20th March 2009 at Lowerhouse Cricket Club, Burnley, starting at 7.30pm (just a bit nearer the site of Rosegrove shed !) There is a bar here which will open before, during and after the show. (Should attract a few more railwayen!) Cost is £4.00 which will include a pie and pea supper at half time. (show lasts about 45 minutes each half)
So the bar will be open after the show so everyone can have a god old 'natter'.
The theme of the show will be the area of Rosegrove and Burnley in steam days and inlcude the Skipton to Colne line, excursions from East Lancashire to the coast and the Copy Pit line to include the now infamous 'Copy Pit Banker' which will depict scenes on the line set to a background tape of an 8F on this duty taken from the footplate !
The show will be dedicated to the memory of the late Des Melia, fireman, driver amd running shift foreman at Rosegrove shed who recently passed away, with all profits from the entrance fee going to the LYR Society to speed the restoration of LYR saddletank No.752, a type of loco that Des worked on during his years at Rsoegrove.
If anyone wants to reserve a ticket to pay on the night, contact me on 01282 436653, but if you do so, please do turn up !

Welcome to Matt, Neil and Ralph, at The Buffet Bar last night.

With R2D2 doing the honours we had a wealth of riches, such that Brian and Ralph never got a look in - shame for both as they always bring good stuff along.

Second Tuesday every month - bring yourself - bring some slides or DVDs - and have a few hours away from a keyboard, or a cold spanner, in this weather!
