The Bluebell plan is for no broken journeys, i.e. a Sheffield Park - Kingscote and return trip. (Possibly helps that our museum and loco storage is at Sheffield Park, and will be open subject to some restrictions).

That said, it feels to me that the national situation is changing very fast at the moment and quite possibly what is allowable / acceptable in August may be rather different than what seems apparent now.

Maths 101 - if an aisle is 2m + 2x person width wide, you can pass in them at 2m separation.
If you think four meters is required, you're double counting.

(At the risk of further diversion) - it’s a very common mistake in that kind of problem: to count the objects when what is required is to count the gaps between objects.

Sample question: “The clock on the Town Hall takes thirty seconds to chime the hours at 6am. How long does it chime for at 12 noon?” Surprising how many people get that one wrong.

I heard that maths problem on Radio 4 this week as I was marking out some Perspex to fit a piano hinge. I thought 'I bet practical people wouldn't find that one too difficult.'
It is easy to underestimate the work needed to lay out a public space, the work in my school has been tremendous and expensive.
This is to manage a group that will do pretty much what you tell them in a tightly controlled space. Much more difficult in a more relaxed, free environment.
Lots more to this than meets the eye.

I think one might do that more often in order to Anti-coronify public spaces, including schools!

    I quite like "covidious" too, though I f I were, I wouldn't. I'm not, at least I wasn't when I was tested 10 days or so ago.

As I type the Mid Hants is doing some staff training with real trains, no passengers, essential ops staff and volunteers only. As far as I know, there is no firm date for re-opening, and this will also depend on feedback from the training and updates to the risk assessments. The pattern of public services when these resume will be very different because not all stations lend themselves to the requisite social distancing or have easily cleanable facilities. Volunteer patterns will change too as mess and workshop facilities have been re-arranged to reduce volunteer density and increase distancing. The management have shared some of the current plans with volunteers and these seem very sensible and well-thought out (well the plans are sensible, not so sure about the volunteers!), so fingers crossed that in weeks, rather than months, the MHR will be able to safely convey and entertain visitors once more.

There is a Sainsbury filling station (with small shop) in my town. There are barriers outside the entrance door with clearly marked signage pointing the way in. My wife went in the shop for a few items and I sat in my car waiting. At least 50% of those going in the place to shop or pay for fuel ignored the signs and went in the exit. The casual way many people seem to disregard signage and advice maybe one of the bigger problems heritage lines could face .

OK, fine if this thread does stay on topic. I was confused by post #11 which seems to be about how rather than when.

The sister of a friend of my wifes did a market yesterday selling jam etc.

She & her husband made a hand with a container for the money at the end of a 2m pole, the 'arm' was suitably 'dressed up'

People were dropping money in just for the fun of it

Yes I can see your point, if no one objects I’ll move that post across to the recommissioning thread to keep this one purely about the reopening dates and associated information.

Please don't see this as negativity towards reopening but I would agree.
If any learning can be carried over from how supermarkets and shops have reopened, it's about being seen to meet the criteria for opening whilst In practice, people are to a great extent as mobile and in close proximity as they were before C-19.
If the screens allow the reopening and there are those happy enough with the results & any risks, then so be it.

The main thing seems to be is having windows open to get fresh air. The screens could help to reduce the virus being passed on if a virus carrier (who may not know it) on the train sneezes or coughs, but wearing good masks should also reduce the risk to safe.

If someone does sneeze or cough, and isn't wearing a mask, are droplets which might carry the virus more likely to reach other people with or without draughts from open windows?
