    A great deal has been written about Mallard's steam speed record of 126mph in 1938, but there seems to be very little information about the HST world diesel record of 149mph in 1987.

    Where was this record set and are there any detailed records of this?

    And I remember this....

    I saw the train as it sped through Swindon during the record run. If I recall, it was a shortened HST.
