AFAIK the bore and stroke are identical (19" x 26"), as are the valves.

Also on the non-stop run to Edinburgh in 1968. The BBC film shows Pegler on the footplate for most of the journey but he walked back into the buffet car at one point. On that trip, the water levels in two of the troughs were low and they only just got enough water to reach Edinburgh - apparently both tenders were dry on arrival!

On the American tour, too, the extra water capacity was apparently useful on the long distance runs. My understanding is that visitors paid to board the footplate then walk through the tenders and coaches at the various stops.

As indeed are many parts. It would be of some interest to know what is actually different between Blue Peter and Tornado apart from the size of the driving wheels. I believe there is a difference in the frames at the front end, which was the reason for the middle cylinder pattern needing slight (reversible) modification; but what other differences are there?

We're very good at this on Nat Pres, but in the case of Blue Peter, there is perhaps more reason than usual for the livery to be significant, namely....
....its obvious visual similarity to Tornado. Apple Green would underscore the points in common with what must be one of the most well-known steam locos among the general public whereas BR green (Call it Brunswick, mid-chrome or whatever) would perhaps make the point, "No, this isn't Tornado, it's Blue Peter." Which of these two approaches the Hosking team will adopt remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, we can debate the subject ad infinitum on this forum, but the people who are ultimately responsible for the livery decision won't take a shred of notice.

Thank You Mark - I don't have my books to hand at the moment to check. So, presumably that will mean that the new cylinder block for Blue Peter will be an exact copy of its original, and the patterns can then be "un-modified" again for further use on Tornado if required.

Does using BR green not create the same risk but with the Scotsman? I know 60103 has the deflectors, but that's still not that huge a difference to the layman?

I’ve heard stories of the public asking if 92212 was Flying Scotsman. No matter how far you go from the Scotsman look, someone somewhere will ask that question...

Naah ..... go the whole hog and splash on a coat of that lovey 'chromatic blue', used on a few diesels before 'rail blue'. We've never seen a real steam loco in that!

Wot? ...... OK, I'll just get my coat ...... :D

Why Cally blue a la 828? Is not 419's shade of Cally blue better?:)

I’m going to put it out there that as the nrm have stipulated 60103 will steam during its centenary year that she’ll be back in apple green as 4472, so I don’t see blue peter looking too similar.
Also a quote from Crewe (latest SR mag) said when 70000’s boiler ticket expires later this year that itS boiler will replace blue peters in the boiler shop. So maybe 2021 looks possible?
