Some of the volunteers involved in the restoration of 46447 are seen posing for photographs at the launch event this morning.

Fabulous job, gents, on a beautiful machine. They're a dream to work on, easy to prep and dispose and, so long as no one does anything stupid, should run seamlessly for the next 10 years. The tank versions are even better, ( a bit more poke). 4 of these and a couple of Standard 4 tanks for the heavier stuff and you could run a pretty tasty commuter service - as long as none of the crews had to be paid of course! Oh yeah - you would need some coaches.

    Regards,

    jtx

A report and photos of 46447's first train is now on the IWSR web site. 46447 was looking really special today, pristine paintwork and the only steam visible was from the right places. I am sure that the Cranmore team will be able to complete 41313 to the same exceptional standard.

It was a splendid day at the East Somerset Railway today. The locomotive looked and sounded magnificent - a great tribute to both railways.

IWSR Chairman Steve Oates had the honour of "launching" 46447 with a bottle of "fizzy wine":

i wonder, by then, 41312 should be in ticket also, if you cant get 41298 borrow 41312, and prehaps an arrangement can be made for 41313 to visit Ropley for a week end on its return to the island, only a thought, or even getting 3 former southern based ivatt2's together in one place

New smokebox door and rods being stripped for a valve and piston exam on 46447. The loco also received a new set of superheater elements over the summer.

Announced on ESR Facebook page that 46447 will be overhauled at the Cranmore when it's boiler ticket expires next year, and is then to operate at the ESR for a further 10 years.
