My offering from Shap Wells. Nice and frosty with the exhaust hanging in the air.

One of those days when it all comes together ...

The freezing fog is gradually rolling back down to the Lune gorge, leaving a frozen tundra landscape over Shap, the trees still frozen from the sub zero temperature of the fog.
This must be the longest exhaust trail I have ever photographed, it can be seen all the way back down to Greenholme and beyond as the steam hangs in the one degree air.

Worth doing the run back for this Steve, it was a glorious sunset behind us as we headed back over the pennines this afternoon. Nice to see catch up today.

Cheers Duncan, I thought it was worth a go on the way home, although they often drift here when stopping at Lancaster. Good to talk to you today, your birds eye shot at Shap is quite something.

35018 at Shap Wells, unfortunately the shot on the return at Clifton was unusable as the fog came down. Had BIL been on time it would have been a different story!

That was always the risk Simon as that fog was hanging around Penrith and Clifton sadly .

    Making up time ...

An energetic departure from Plumpton loop as the sun is starting to fade ..

I've also only just noticed its rather massive shadow!

    Santa 21c.jpg

Mick Kelly and Michael Middleton certainly put on a show for photographers today as they work 'British India Line' towards Shap summit in wonderful frosty conditions

    Santa 22c.jpg

With Beacon Hill as a backdrop and Shap Wells Hotel prominent, 'British India Line' puts on a fine display on the approach to the summit

    Santa 23c.jpg

Unfortunately with the late running the light had gone as 'British India Line' works the return 'Santa Special 2' through Shapbeck Gate
