And now things really start to get interesting. Will she make the gala? What livery will she be in? And of course the most important question will John be fighting over the banana bread beer again? Stay tuned to find all these answers and more.

Seriously that is really good news. Got to love standard tanks for just the hugeness of them.

Pleased to see 80072 boiler finally in steam - its been a long time coming but that is down to Pete Evans & company - well done lads. I'm sure they will try to get it ready asap but I think the most important thing is to make sure the loco is operationally spot on and completely finish. I think after all this time, does it make any differance an extra couple months to get it right rather than make the SSS2 at all costs? 80072 will get her moment that is for sure and complete with "6C" shedplate? ;-) Once again well done. =D>

There is still a lot of work to be done on the loco and we would rather run it in properly before it is put into operation. It cannot be guaranteed that it will be finished for the gala, but we would all like to see it running there. Hopefully the boiler will be delivered to Llangollen in the following week, and it has been rumored that it could be in the frames before christmas. So everyone needs to keep praying that we'll have it ready in time...

6C. Not at the moment. It will enter traffic with a Leamington Spa shedplate.

80072 boiler is due back Thursday. Plan is to have it back in the frames in time for the weekend so the volunteers can come over saturday / sunday and get to work.

Subject to no problems occuring she will make it, just!

The Steel Steam & Stars organisers REALLY hope that 80072 makes it

It would be a superb date to make her first appearance and would definatley be one of the star attractions

We are in no doubt she will be seen for the first time by many people

Good luck to Pete and the boys,..from us all

Sorry I meant to say "6D" (Shrewsbury) and as loco is based at Llangollen, the "6D" shedplate was the obvious one to have on the loco. Regardless I would sincerely hope it does appear with that particular shedplate as along with the number plate, I did purchase them for the 80072 group. :)

Right I now understand what the plan is !

9017 will arrive at Llangollen and will be sent down to C&W asap. Once inside we are looking for volunteers to come down and help clean up any greae etc and rub her down before Malcom begins painting her.

So if anyone wants to help with such a task please fill in the forms on the Main Page at the top and pass them onto Glyn.

Malcolm has asked if we can help paint some of the less noticeable areas of the Loco. He will not have time to paint all of the Undercoat and Gloss. His main task will be tackling the big areas like the tender, boiler and cab. However, there are lots of smaller items that take time which other volunteers can tackle. Having said that, we still want reasonably competent painters to do this work.

The very important job at the start is the degreasing and removal of dirt from all areas being repainted. This needs to be thorough to avoid us painting over it.

Should be a good sociable job and we are promised some help from the 'STEAM RAILWAY' team, who have sponsored the paint.

Technically yes, i guess Llangollen is a few miles closer to Toronto on the map at least!!

I have made a couple of emails at least to look into accommodations. Air fare and other things won't be an issue, but if i can't find somewhere to stay for a decent price, that will be a deal breaker, even this far out in advance making plans for a change!! We shall see what responses i get and go from there.

    Headline news.

80072's boiler arrived at Llangollen during the week. We spent most of today looking for all the bolts we took out of the crinolines and cladding, before it was sent to LNWR works in Crewe.

Why is it that you always find them in the last place you look. :-k

All of the crinoline band were then fitted around the firebox, ready for the boiler to be fitted into the frames, (hopefully this week)...

Never heard of Deuchars Bitter but the two most popular Scottish real ales are:

    1) Deuchars IPA

    2) Caledonian 80 Shillings

Both brewed by the Caledonian brewery in Edinburgh I think.

I would also recommend McEwans 80 Shillings but that isn't so widely available.

You can and we'll put a picture of you in it on here as proof.

Good to meet southyorkshireman over the weekend where many things were discussed with many people. Unfortunately that's about all i can say on the subject till the press releases from more senor members are posted.

Had quite an entertaining weekend. Can recommend the Royal in Llan if you like an early night!

I have attended a couple of meetings regarding SSS2 now, and it really does show how much effort is being made by a small number of people. The amount of work that goes into organising a gala is pretty damn scary. As you can see the forum is supporting the gala. There is a lot of work to be done over the next four months and especially during the gala itself. Its an new idea to try and seek volunteers through a forum for a specific event and we hope it will work well.

If you have ever fancied helping out but can't commit to frequent visits, this is a chance for you to get involved whether it be for the entire gala or even a just a morning. Having been given an idea of the jobs that need to be covered, I know that any assistance offered will be greatly appreciated by Quentin, Will and the rest of the team. Glyn and myself will be down for the duration of the gala doing whatever needs to be done, and we hope to see as many of you as possible!

Llangollen is getting ever easier to get to, especially with the Wrexham and Shropshire service

It could be a new trend, helping out in the morning, riding / linesiding in the afternoon. If you are interested in giving up any of your time however much you can give, there is a form at the top of the main forum, please send it in!
