It's good to hear that progress is being made on this loco, albeit slowly. I hear that the motion is the next job to be worked out.

I'm afraid you heard wrong. We are carrying out a purely cosmetic conservation job on Sir Fred to protect the locomotive from further deterioration.
There are no plans whatsoever to do anything with the motion if indeed we have any, and this will not be known until a full audit of the stored parts has been carried out.

Just setting the record straight. I have already had several phone calls asking what we are doing with the motion so clearly others missed the joke too.

The 2020 SLL calendar is now available. It features photos of all five SLL Light Pacifics, not to mention 35002, 80104 and Norman. They cost £10 each inc UK P&P, and the proceeds go towards SLL's restoration projects. If you'd like a copy please email nicksidmouth@gmail.com for full details. thumbnail_IMG_1602.jpg

does anyone know of news of 34067 Tangmere?
For instance, overhaul commenced with plans to use boiler from 34073?

The frames of 34073 (I assume unless 34067 has deteriorated very rapidly) have not moved for ages and are visible when passing (rolling stock stabling permitting) however the boiler is not there?

Also remember that Bodmin is also at Carnforth so possibly scope to make 2 from the three. although I am not sure who owns any of the 3?

As with anything to do with Mr Bunch, has owned, or has shared ownership nothing is clear, Bodmin was supposingly sold to David Smith and needs a new firebox, and major mechanical work, but its not clear, if David Smith owns it 100 per cent, or a share in it, and who pays for the overhaul, does Carnforth need another 7p ? Bil has certainly shown what a Bulleid pacific can do Tangmere is said to be in need of similar work, possibly may be in a worse state, the boiler certainly is reported to be in bad shape, needing extensive work, possibly also needs a new firebox and tube plate ,but again who owns Tangmere, and is there any money set a side towards its overhaul, neither loco has reported to have had work done, since both moved to Carnforth .

You could write to Carnforth and ask them and then you could write to Kim Jon asking for details of their nuclear programme. You will probably have more chance of getting a reply from N Korea

Presumably whatever happens it won't become clear even when something emerges, if they follow their habit of doing test runs in disguise.

The hope would be that all three eventually end up running, I've long had a soft spot for poor forlorn old 34073, passed from pillar to post and with little apparent hope of restoration. The poor relation of the class, I feel.

Same here, especially after recently buying a book including a picture of 34073 working an excursion over what would have been my local railway if it was still open - the late lamented and highly scenic Cuckoo Line. I wish Mr Hosking or someone from his team could see @missspentyouth62's photo. It was widely rumoured a couple of years ago that he wanted to add a "Spam Can" to his fleet and not only is 34073 likely to be the only example whose owner(s) might be willing to sell, but he also is one of very few people with the financial resources to return this poor old engine to working order. Now we know that 34092 won't be going main line again, it would be good to see another original Bulleid in action on the big railway. Tangmere, for all her ups and downs in the final years before firebox troubles struck, is sorely missed - and I'm sure I'm not just speaking for myself.

The reason for my question regarding 34067 was because I'd received 3rd-hand news originating from Carnforth, that work had recently commenced with intention of using boiler from 34073 so I was looking to see if anyone was able to corroborate. My 'contact' is no longer on site now his loco is not based at Carnforth.

They have moved since then, now along side a shed visible from the WCML.
