I'm pretty sure it is being rebuilt to "as-built" at next overhaul, and the mainline kit being taken off to be used on another loco.

Really? I thought they were going to have another go on their next boiler ticket?

That was part of my thinking too, flying scotsman123. As the owners have been able to rack up about a thousand miles on the Moors with some quite reasonable loads. What's more as many here will know the Moors is quite a twisty, turny up and down route, that leads to quite a selection of driving technicise being needed/used, to travel those 36 miles when doing a return trip Pickering - Grosmont - Pickering.

It certainly seem to be a case of so far, so good. As the Moors has in the past been the downfall of many a visiting locomotive.............

Sure that's what's been said by the 6023 team. Made sense as she didn't have long left on her ticket, so do a tour to earn some money for the overhaul then go for a new mainline ticket.

To be fair, the transport cost wasn’t as bad as it could have been, the GWSR picked up part of the tab for getting to the nymr. I’m glad to see 6023 is handling things ok, she’s nearing the end ticket and as good as she is , there are a few things starting to show. Hopefully the Gws will be able to work something out regards an overhaul.

Obviously not a member of the Moors footplate staff, then. As most are pretty good, granted even the best can have a bad day now and then. Whilst not on the operating side of things on the Moors I've been involved one way and another actively with the Moors for around 30 out of the last forty four years. Most of my volunteering has been with the restoration in recent times or fundraising in the earlier years.

As it happens I was out on the king on Sunday last, and the fireman managed just fine, however in previous weeks, there has been assistant firemen rostered for security as it is very coal and water hungry, we used 2'500 Gallons of water in a single 18 mile trip!

When I was at Didcot for the Impossible Dream event there was a discussion ongoing amongst volunteers as to whether mainline was 'viable'. 6023 has found regular work and income in the last few years without the additional strain and cost of mainline operation.

Personally I hope they do have a go next ticket, she is just too powerful on a preserved line to demonstrate her full potential. The GWS were looking at portable equipment that could transferred amongst their locos, hopefully this will make things more viable.

As you say, coal and water hungry. 2500 gallons is usually sufficient for a return trip. It is on a par with the Super D, there. Bearing in mind that the NYMR is used to Class 8P locos, it requires a lot of shovelling in comparison.
