Is there any indication of how much they are looking for? She tells an almost unique story as an operational ship and thus I would hope ticks a lot of boxes for external funders as well?

It doesn't seem that long since she was last re-boilered. Wasn't it as a result of a large lottery grant or am I thinking of a different vessel?

    From their website...

This was then replaced in 2000 with two Cochran Thermax boilers fitted with Hamworthy Electrotec rotary cup burners.

So the boiler have lasted less than 20 years.

In fairness to Cochrane, the boilers are standard 'package' boilers designed for industrial use, not for marine propulsion. Also in order to fit two the insulation had to be removed at the point where they come up against each other in the boiler room.

A great shame its come to this, a beautiful vessel, had the good fortune to sail on her, hope that the money can be found to keep her operational, though the history of maritime preservation in this country isn't the best, waiting to hear of the sums involved - think i will be digging deep.

They estimated £2,000,000 when the GM was asked by the BBC on reporting Scotland.

Don't forget that PS Monarch is running this year as well. From Wareham Quay this weekend.

The other bit of good news is that the works will include basically all new equipment in the boiler room and attention to the steelwork

    Good news today!

She is being towed to Greenock in January for the work to begin. Currently expected to take around four months (the work not the tow!).
