''This service was cancelled throughout due to a problem with a steam locomotive (ME)''. The same message as given for the cancellation of Braunton's move on Monday.

Let's hope that it's not the start of a steam ban due to the very dry lineside conditions.

Unconfirmed at present but apparently Braunton caused a couple of small fires on Sunday between Taunton and Bristol. <BJ>

Edit: Just found the following snippet from Mr Marsh.

Who carries their fire extinguisher with them to the line-side? Very well equipped!

It is just taking a little time to get the bolts out of the 10A shed code plate so it can be replaced with an 81C one [IMG]

Thanks Mark, I was rather concerned by the lack of light on this side of the train but I don't think it's come out that badly!

The Copper cap on the chimney isn't finished and the Brass coloured Paint is still tacky on the dome :Photogenic:

I agree a very nice action photograph of 35018.
But that particular image and the previous one before it, can't have been taken on Tuesday 9th July as stated by the captions, because the Southern White Route Discs are in the positions they were for Saturday's run to Bournemouth.
On Tuesday the two Discs were position to indicate a (London) Waterloo to Plymouth train.

Only for the outward run, on the return from Weymouth the discs were positioned for the Weymouth - Waterloo route .

Sorry, but you're not right there. The caption is correct and the discs were changed at Weymouth (see the shot above of 35018 on Upwey bank). Thanks for the comment about the shot, nonetheless.

Also, to add, and I feel bad about typing this, how about brass cast cabside number plates.
I'm sure even Mr Oliver Bulleid would have a chuckle about that, seeing as 21C1 and 21C2 were original built with cast gunmetal cabside and front number plates. This was changed from 21C3 onwards in favour of weight saving measures that had to be taken.
The cast gunmetal plates were carried by both locomotives until British Railways renumbering in late 1949 - early 1950.
I have read that the plates had already been cast for 21C3 and for about twenty years they were believed to be "hanging" around in Eastleigh Works. I bet someone knows what became of them and whos study/den wall they are hanging on now.

Also I would like to add my apologies to James Corben for confusion over the date captions on his excellent photographs.
Shortly after I posted #294 comments, I thought I wonder if the Disc Positions had been changed before the return leg. Honest.
Now I wish I had made a bit more effort to get my own images on the return leg. But after a long, hot, but enjoyable trip, I didn't fancy pushing through the crowds at the various stops.

The headboard is ok if they insist on it, it just looks ridiculous halfway down the smoke box. That only applies to Southern locos
