Looking extremely good! Excellent progress, I'm looking forward to seeing this very useful machine enter service.

With her WR yellow RA disc, and shed plate, she'd look even better fitted with WR lamp irons... Marvellous work so far on her, and thanks for the very regular updates :).

The rotation is very small and is dictated by the A frame pivoting near the coupled axles. It wouldn't be seen on that video as there is nothing to initiate it.

The circular dish visible is part of the weight transfer from the loco, a circular spigot is fixed on the frames which sits in this. I think the reason these are circular is that they are easier to machine than any other shape, rather than to allow rotation. The central cradle is therefore fixed in position relative to the mainframes. As the truck frame swings around the pivot at the apex of the A frame, it moves relative to the cradle which forces the swing links to swing. Because of their geometry the movement of the links lifts the front of the loco which provides the self-centering force to bring the truck back to the centre position.

Away from the engineering information I should mention the sad news that 82045 lost one of its long term supporters last month.

Gerry Bennett will be known to all who visited the SVR 40s weekends as the 'Spiv' selling watches, stockings and often with a mirror on the end of his stick ! Gerry always helped me personally when I organized fundraising events for 82045. He generated income, laughter and smiles in equal measure. I personally shall miss his phone calls. Rest in Peace Gerry - you will remain in our memories always.

Chris will post a special obituary to a very special man in next months updates.

Speaking as someone who's been involved in the 1940's scene for longer than I care to remember, I can only say that Gerry will be sorely missed.
