It certainly didn't look or sound like she was struggling at all on those climbs- a lovely sharp exhaust, and a real hustle to the performance.
Lyd, on the other hand, did not sound so convincing to my ears when climbing solo. Running on a longer cut off, she sounded rather breathless.

The new-build Manning-Wardle project has been trumpeted in the railway press and on social media. The project was formally introduced at the Gala. However, the 762 Club website still has 'watch this space' under the Project Yeo and Project Exe links.
To strike while the iron is hot would surely be a good idea - i.e. could we get some more info up on these pages about how to contribute before all my moolah goes to worthy 3-foot causes here in Ireland!!? :D

Lyd suffered a lubrication failure a few months ago so one of the valve faces is damaged. The "breathless" sound is steam leaking past the valve and going straight up the chimney. It's not something that is easy to fix when the loco is required in service.

From what I hear Lyn now has its own cylinder issues.

I agree entirely - I'm just waiting for the copy to come through so I can update the site!

...and like LYD, LYN will need to be taken out of service to investigate. Much the same, I should think, as with any steam locomotive from time to time.

It sounds like that the method used to secure the cylinders was incorrect and, most likely all the bolts holding the cylinders in place will have to be removed and, the holes in the frames drilled out to remove the threads with new correct drive bolts made and refitted. It has been put forward that only 4 bolts on each cylinder to be done but that has been turned down as problems could still come up in the future.

What is the exact problem with Lyn's cylinders?

If you're a member of the 762 club I would suggest you email someone directly to ask your question. The L&B and associated organizations rarely answer queries posted on social media because once you answer one you're expected to answer every question, rumour, or fib put out by proponents and opponents alike!

Update: see October 18th's news entry on the L&B site that has a photo of work on cylinders.

https://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/railway/news has "Latest News" on 11th October. Should we be looking at some other website?

The news items in yellow on the home page are "sticky" and rise to the top. Yes, perhaps there are too many atm. Maybe that can be looked into...
