It looks like ex L&YR stock - possibly that used on the Liverpool Overhead Railway services which continued through to Southport. I presume that the stock is en route to a scrap merchant - but which one ? Location of image would be useful to pinpoint more accurately.

Could be a coupling adapter wagon between brake van and first coach?

LT F stock looks favourite. All withdrawn by the early 60's (all steel construction). The 9F spent most of it's short life in South Wales, so there may be a clue to where the train was heading for scrap.

I concur; my original suggestion was based on the roof-mounted vents which suggest a tunnel environment and were similar to the vents on the Class 502 / 503 trainsets. I have little knowledge of the London Transport loco-hauled stock from the 1960s so would be interested to know more.

I’m fairly certain that a lot of LT stock went to Cashmores at Newport for scrap and one of the assembly points for withdrawn stock was and still is Ruislip Depot adjacent to the GW/GC joint line. From there the route may have been Oxford -Cheltenham-Gloucester which would explain why this is not the S Wales Mainline. 92250 was allocated to Ebbw Junction in the early 60s and I remember seeing it at Old Oak and Southall.

Perhaps someone else can confirm if any of this theory is correct

I remember LU tube stock being dragged through Birmingham Snow Hill by 9F's on a couple of occasions.
Possibly to Cashmores at Great Bridge?

That could be it. I thought Cashmores were only based at Newport

The only LT stock I noted at Cohens yard during frequent visits in the 1960s was "normal" tube stock

Not Oxford - Cheltenham - Gloucester but Swindon - Gloucester - Newport. At the time I believe that condemned locos and perhaps condemned rolling stock were not allowed through the Severn Tunnel. As a result it was a regular thing in Gloucester to see locos & stock making their last trip to S Wales.

F stock was a District/Circle/Met lines EMU, not loco hauled.
