I think the planning folk have waited too long for any other proposals to be made, according to the news article. Hence the housing being put forward for approval.

Perhaps lack of money might be a reason why proposals haven't been brought forward yet for the site?

Regarding the application for a huge grant, I think that it is a good plan to think big in general terms, because it drives the organisation forwards and possibly secures it for the long term (as in NYMR case). However, the WSR first needs to demonstrate financial soundness and good governance both of which are eluding it at present. I think it will need a couple of years at least to rescue the current situation and demonstrate a new found soundness before very large projects on the scale of the NYMR could be contemplated. Could the WSR actually control the spend of that much money at present? I suspect not. (Which is not a criticism, just an observation on current organisational priorities and depth of talent).

It is the green square of land bordering the left of Station Road, entrance to the new estate, and to the track to BL Station

The stakeholders/shareholders meeting has been re-scheduled for Saturday 2nd March, at the same venue.

No doubt an official statement will appear here in due course.

The WSRA office was pleased to receive a £1,250 donation (inc gift aid) towards 9351’s reassembly today. Thank you.

Donations of any size are very welcome. Having 9351 back on the roster will be a significant boost for the home fleet.

Thanks. I remember seeing this photo in the past. I assumed it was by the Rev.A.H.Malan.

(For those interested in fine pictures of the Broad Gauge during its last decade "Broad Gauge finale
compiled from the photographs & notes of the Rev.A.H.Malan" is a must. published Wild Swan 1985.
Most of the plates are on the former B&ER with a few on the SDR)

However it is not in that collection. I then tried the other obvious suspects ie MacDermot and
specifically Sekon's history ( a lament to the passing thereof ?) of the Broad Gauge.

So I give in, who photographed it and where was it originally published ?

Dear Shareholders, Volunteers & Staff Colleague’s

We have now been able to confirm a new date for the meeting previously due to be held on Saturday 2nd February 2018. We would like to invite you to the meeting on Saturday 2nd March 2019, 11am at Oake Manor, Oake, Taunton, Somerset, TA4 1BA.

We will discuss how your railway will be facing up to the challenges of operating England’s Longest Heritage Railway. What work is planned and what will be deferred for future closure periods, in order to operate our Steam Railway using locomotives which would not have operated on our line in British Railway days.

There will be a series of presentations, at the end of which there will be plenty of opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

If you would like to attend the meeting, please register your attendance with Kerry Noble on 01643 700407 or kerry.noble@wsrail.net

    Yours Sincerely

    Jonathan Jones-Pratt

My source was David Turner on Facebook. However, he doesn’t credit it (generally he is assiduous in crediting his sources). So I guess you’d have to ask him directly.

Edit: Nat Pres seems to be changing an id to I’d in that url and nothing I can do about it - you’ll have to hack it yourself...

A challenge to all of the keyboard warriors who contribute to this lively thread...
Please support this re-assembly fund for 9351

    https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/assembling9351

Any amount will help get this unique loco back into service on the WSR this coming season.
    Thank you.

Geoff makes an excellent suggestion. Some folk may also take delight in helping to extract some cash from the UK government in that if you are a UK tax payer, HMG will top up your donation by 25% with gift aid!

The Bristol & Exeter Station Signs appeal is still open as well for non-loco types.

Maybe I am missing something here - but in what way do you think insulting people as 'keyboard warriors' is likely to make people want to donate to the campaign to re-assemble 9351?

There is something very WSR about this. Donations are solicited by first insulting potential donors.

I hate to break it to you but if that is your attitude towards people I think I will donate to a group or a line that doesn't insult me first and then ask for my money.

What is this 'Operation **** You'?

Could`t agree more. Without wishing to sound speculative, I suspect the mildly offensive and flippant tone adopted to promote the appeal is the result of an over-reaction to some of the negative posting that appears here periodically. Not an ideal way to generate a good response.

Sorry, I don't see anything insulting, there is a please and a thank you in there, which is more than in most posts, and it is in a very good cause, it is a great engine, I fired it on its first loaded test run, with Andy Foster, we stopped under Watchet bridge and it walked away from a standing start with 8 on, no problem, can't wait to drive it again!
