You might very well say that, I couldn't possibly comment.

And moreover it demonstrates a complete ignorance of the philosophy of conservation. I'm not going to go through it again here, I refer you to the Lode Star thread where I have it patiently tried to explain it in detail.

And since art students are apparently "filthy", I won't tell you anything about the research I recently did on Southern Railway architecture for my History of Art MA dissertation (which I passed with distinction, thank you, after two years of sweating away at evening study whilst also holding down a paid job). I thought we were all here to share a common interest and enjoy the different knowledge and perspectives which come from people with different skills and life experiences. I thought that maybe, given the amount of ignorance and prejudice which our hobby already faces from certain sections of society, we might all realise that life is too short for us to start insulting each other. But what do I know? Nothing, apparently, since I'm only an art student.

I hope that you are going to try to publish the diss in some form or other. It sounds very interesting. A condensed version would maybe be the sort of thing something like Backtrack might go for. (I don’t know what they are like to work with).

I am sure I have seen some local headlines about an event in 2025, but that is about as far as the 175 event got (there was a rather smaller celebration on the NYMR that year after the large event was cancelled).

Looking at the film (I have the photo souvenirs somewhere on the bookcases), many of the locos that ran are in traffic now or soon will be. A few won't run again but are on public display, while the only thing in the parade no longer with us is one of the prototype HST power cars. Most of the HST coaches are currently still in service (I have a feeling actually that perhaps one or maybe two of them have also been cut up).

A number of the locos traveled up some time before the event and were stabled at Bank Top Station - initially, in full view, later behind screens with an admission charge. A number were also securely stored at the MOD dept at Allens West and visible from passing Darlington to Eaglescliffe trains.
