D6566 was out on test running today following repairs.
It piloted 7822 from WN to BL on the 14:15 ex MD and then returned to WN on the back of the 16:15 BL so you weren't seeing things!
D6566 is now deemed ok and following a bit of tidying up and painting on Sunday will then be released back into traffic.

Sadly missed but not forgotten. His name crops up regularly around the railway.

Mike I have been busy making a presentation box for Chris' 00 model of Braunton. Chris was presented with the model by the owner of the 12" to the 1' version after the restoration. The box is almost finished, just awaiting the plaque to be engraved, and then Chris' sister will present the loco to the Steam Trust who will display it and occasionally run it. Will supply the when later but it will be a day when 34046 is running.

You'd better get it fixed soon - my wife calls 7820 'her' engine after driving it at Cheltenham in May! :);):D

Any idea what's wrong with it? Certainly my favourite engine on the GWSR in terms of noise, even on our billiard table it can make a lovely racket! :)

A raquet on a billiard table? I bet you don't pot many balls.

You play the game your way, and Alex will play it his - billiards with rackets certainly sounds braver and more dangerous than the usual method of play! :D;)

Is the GWSR still on baulk rail? Does making a racket help with services?

Don't know whether it helps, but selling the rackets could be a useful sideline! (Or maybe 'siding', which I think is where this thread has been shunted by us yet again!) ;):p:D

Anyway, stop changing the subject - when will the West Somerset get 7820 fixed and be safe from the wrath of Mrs Bean-counter?

Maybe new thread entitled rackets on Heritage/Tourist lines. Either kind; semi swindle or recreational. :D

Now that does sounds like a very dangerous sport needing almost super human strength, and unbreakable rackets , I think I will continue to play with my cue ( no smutty remarks please , you bunch of juveniles) though with billards you certainly need good hand eye co ordination

  15. The 60009-hauled Cathedrals Express crossed the NR/WSR boundary on time at 13.36 hrs.

I do like the loco's 'weathered' look, the top of it's boiler is completely black. Reminds me of Bournemouth in '67, although No.9 would probably have been considered clean in comparison to those Bulleids!

1730: The Hall has just left MD with the 3 car unit and a 7-coach rake, presumably to save a path used up by the charter.

Yes. 3 DMU cars + 7 Mk 1s. Not sure if the DMU is providing any power, but it was smoking well (or is that normal?)

7820 developed a problem with piston rings - a team from the owners has been working flat out over the last two days with fantastic assistance from the WSR shed staff to get it back into service. The problem has been fixed and now attention is on the wash-out (which was scheduled). If all goes according to plan, the loco will be ready for service by the week-end.

I do hope this puts Mrs Bean-counter's mind at rest (she is welcome to come along and polish "her" engine any time!)
