I'm surprised no-one has picked up on the fact that 65894 was steam tested last week after completion of reassembly at Grosmont. It moved a little under its own steam and is now being snagged prior to an official visit by the boiler inspector. It should be running-in within a couple of weeks prior to hauling low season trains on the NYMR.

A big shunt yesterday at the NYMR seems also positioned 5428 ready for its boiler to be re-fitted to its frames.

I was on a shed tour at Grosmont 12 days ago and was told 65894 was nearly ready for testing. I didn't realise 5428 was that close to having its boiler fitted, looked like there was a fair bit of finishing off to do, so they must have been working hard on it.

Today was its last day of running in, I'm told. Going solo with the shortened teak train (5 coaches) from now on.

Worked the 1630 ex Grosmont solo today after one round trip with the B1; the teak rake is reduced to 3 coaches.

Great to see all those problems with the work by Crewe have finally been overcome.

Seeing that it was meant to be a beautiful day and she was due to be in service, I went up to the NYMR yesterday to catch 65894 on its first full day in service following overhaul and running in. She looked great, especially on the short set of Gresley and Thompson Teaks! Photos taken at Grosmont and Levisham. IMG_3920.JPG IMG_3965.JPG

Too hot for anything decent yesterday, but great to see the J27 out and about.

Looking good... Very good! I was up there on Saturday behind the B1, be nice to see that with the teaks too... The Thompson vehicle's scumbled teak finish has been superbly applied too, I had a nice close-up look from my passing train at Goathland. Well done to the NELPG, NYMR, and the LNERCA for all their hard work - Particularly in repairing the damage to the Gresley teak stock.

    Richard.

I took some of the family to Pickering today as they were going for an afternoon to Whitby by NYMR. I was pleased to see the J27 arrive at Pickering with the teak stock (same train as in jon5051's photo at post No 12). I've not seen this loco in steam for many years so was very pleased to see it close up. It looked brilliant. (Photos taken on a mobile so not best quality).

Copied from the NELPG Facebook page.

Tomorrow (Tuesday 19th) is a very special day for our J27 / P3 as the locomotive will be 100 years old, and to mark the occasion the locomotive has been repainted into lined LNER livery just as it was when new 100 years ago.

The launch of our J27 / P3 in LNER livery is to take place at 10am tomorrow in Pickering Station on the NYMR.

Outshopped from North Road Works in Darlington by the LNER on 19th September 1923, and to commemorate its centenary as P3 No 2392, it will arrive in Pickering hauling a goods train, prior to its subsequent departure on a service train to Grosmont.

The arrangements for the day are:

Arrival of J27 / P3 with a goods train in Pickering at 10.00.
    Short commemorative ceremony 10.00-10.10.
The J27 / P3 departs for the Carriage Stable sidings returning with the LNER teak set at 10.35.
The J27 / P3 hauls the 10.55 service train for Grosmont and then the 12.40 service for Pickering.

The J27 / P3 is to remain on the service train throughout the day, with the following arrival and departure times:

    Pickering Dep. 10.55
    Grosmont Arr. 12.09 Dep. 12.40
    Pickering Arr. 13.49 Dep. 14.10
    Grosmont Arr. 15.16

Some photos did appear on Facebook earlier but have since been deleted as they jumped the gun on the official unveiling, but it looks fantastic!

I came across this feature on YouTube. As today is 2392's 100 birthday.-

Would have looked even better if the 2 21 ton North Eastern hoppers had been runners too, based at Goathland.
