Am gutted I cant make this for a second year! Sadly, need to help family with a house move, so Great Central need to make it an annual event. Glad to see that might just be happening.

    Small update for this weekend.

47406 was turned to face North this afternoon.
78018 has been connected to its new tender rather than 78019's.
D5185 has been paired with the Diesel Brake Tender which will be at the North end of the Locomotive.

Will there be any way of seeing the Jinty shunting other than driving to the branch itself?

Unfortunately not, there will be other locomotives shunting trains to/from sidings at Quorn but because of the Classic Car Show in the car park we’re limited as to what can/can’t be shunted. The last few May Gala’s 47406 has stayed in the car park for most if the day so we thought this year would be the year to try something different.

Just worth noting, the M1 is closed J23A-J24 this weekend. Those coming from the North can expect severe delays, and I'd imagine the tailbacks on the A6 will reach Loughborough itself. Best allow extra time!

I presume if I am reading the timetable correctly 47406 on the Mountsorrel branch will only take place between 11:30 and 13:00

will the engine be shunting up at the visitor centre ?

From the Mountsorrel Railway Facebook Page:
A steam train will be visiting the heritage centre this weekend as part of the GCR’s Goods Galore Gala http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/special-events/goods-galore/ LMS “Jinty” no. 47406 will arrive at the heritage centre sidings on Saturday morning. This will be the first time a steam loco has entered the sidings at the heritage centre since “Planet” visited for the filming of ITV’s Victoria two years ago. 47406 will shunt the newly restored heritage centre wagons to form a train that would have been typical of those that ran on the branch line during the 1920’s and 30’s. The train will then depart for a run along the branch line to Swithland Sidings and onto the GCR main line. 47406 will bring the wagons back to the heritage centre on Sunday afternoon.

78018 was failed mid way through the day, was replaced by a Class 20. Also things were heavily delayed and some trains cancelled in the afternoon, a passenger taken ill on the dining train and was taken onboard an ambulance at Rothley. Hopefully they make a full recovery. Apart from that a good day, the rain stayed away until the very end (is pouring down in Leicester at the moment). A great variety of locomotives and rolling stock on show, a highlight for me was seeing the Standard 5 running. Will post some pictures later.

A very enjoyable day yesterday . Lots going on . What was particularly nice was everything was BR era with a couple of exceptions so everything looked right

I hope the passenger on the diner who suffered a medical emergency is ok . Delayed the timetable but gave me an excuse to look around the vintage vehicles

Hats off to everyone involved in wagon restoration at the GCR, it's incredible how many they are able to mobilise at galas like this.

Big thank you for posting all videos and photos from the event.

The gala seemed to be a success even if things did go a bit pear shaped on the Saturday with 78018 failing, vacuum issues on stock and the ill passenger on the dining train but these things happen and we tried our best to overcome them.

    Roll on Goods Galore 2019!
