Brings back happy memories of being chased out of that shed by the foreman in my (much) younger spotting days :)

  4. Yes, true and no. It was rostered but I missed it on the WTT so didn't add it to the page until it was spotted :)

    PRESS RELEASE. PRESS RELEASE

WSR receives permission to use railway ‘double arrows’ symbol.

After some long and careful negotiations the West Somerset Railway is delighted to announce has received permission from the British Railways Board Residuary Body to use the famous ‘double arrows’ or ‘barbed wire’ symbol which has been associated with the National railway network since the mid-1960’s. The Railway will be updating its signage by a rolling programme through 2018.

Chairman of the WSR heritage committee, Cress Morris, said: ‘This is a feather in the cap of the WSR. It will allow older GWR style signs to be removed and sold off to generate funds. But we are sensitive to tradition and so signs will be mounted on GWR colour posts. Old signs will be available for enthusiasts to buy at the WSR autumn Gala.’

The Railway said that Station signs will be dealt with first, followed by applying the symbol to steam locomotives and carriages. The Railway said that the new symbol, with or without red background, would go very well with the Rail blue livery now to be adopted for all vehicles as they go through works. Loco 9351 should be the first to appear in the new livery.

Photo: New sign in place at Stogumber, old signs about to be removed.

Would have been much smarter if a 'new' sign could have been afforded, rather than a 'heritage' sign that has obviously seen better days elsewhere.......

The railway workshops are pleased to be able to provide this photo of 9351 in its new corporate livery.

Great to see the WSR going with the times - this initiative is to be applauded.

I heard that the WSRA and the WSR had reached an agreement, under which the ex6 +1 were to be reinstated, to help arrange the disposal of all the steam locos, so that the line could afford to accquire a fleet of surplus to requirements class 141s from Northern, to reduce running costs and modernise the lines image to suit the local Chamber of Trade.

Further, trials were then to take place to see if four class 141s had enough power to haul the Quantock Belle, which if unsuccessful, would result in it's replacement with a McDonalds on board franchise.

    Anyone else heard this?
