Sounds like more hassle than its worth, better off getting something designed for its purpose than bodging a listed building after moving it hundreds of miles made of old materials.

  3. I'm confident the WSR organisations will already have come to that conclusion. We must expect them to look into what might be possible, especially when heritage is concerned, but sometimes it just ain't gonna work out.

Enjoyed my first visit to minehead station this morning. Lovely end of line station with nice large canopy and s160 heading the train and fowler 7f simmering in the yard. Didnt have time for a ride but me and the wife spent good 50 quid in the shop and book stall courtseey of the kids in tow.
What loco is in the good shed road closest to the platform?

Thank you for visiting the station, your kind comments and support.
Do you mean 4110? It's the large prairie for restoration?

7828 under repair & awaiting the return of its boiler is literally the nearest but the one with the unclad boiler is 9351 - its boiler recently refitted following full repair.

And a coach - GWR BCK 6705 - that has crossed the Atlantic twice and was owned by the US National Parks Service before being donated to the West Somerset Steam Railway Trust.

    Spring 1944

Ken and Terry decided to use a gallon or two of their carefully kept petrol for a few days away at the seaside with their friends in Minehead and took granddaughter Mercy. Ken was certain he could remember the way through the lanes but with all the road signs removed it was terribly confusing and they got horribly lost. Fortunately Claire had walked from the village to Yarde Farm near Stogumber Station for some off-ration eggs and was able to give directions. Ken was anxious to get to Minehead before dark as he hated driving on unfamiliar roads with the blackout regulations in force. Just then a distant chime whistle could be heard and Mercy rushed to the roadside, closely followed by Terry, to wave to the passing train of invasion preparation material hauled by one of those unusual American locomotives. They were rewarded by a cheery wave back from the servicemen on the train. Surely the invasion of France has to come soon?

What stories will you tell at the West Somerset Railway 40's weekend, 15/16 September 2018?

Thanks are due to Mercy, Terry, Claire, Emma, Ken, Stan, Richard, Bill, Rob and the train crew for their work on this photo. And to Kidderminster station for the loan of their poster board.

If they got to Minehead they were doing well, my mother and a friend described attempting to cycle from her home in Bristol to Clevedon during WW2 but gave up when they got lost & could not get directions .....................

A fantastic photograph beautifully enhanced by that wonderful poster board. A great deal of effort must have gone into the planning of it. Congratulations Robin.

Would you grant me permission to print off a copy of the photo to put on our noticeboard (temporarily) in our RAF Association Branch HQ in York? They'd love it.

Cast it in solid brass & bolt it to your engine of choice - "Bouncy Castle".
