Maybe but the BL facilities are rather down at heel in comparison to Minehead & need improving if overnight stays for vols are to be made more attractive - surely an essential?.

(That said the BL facilities are still better than many similar offerings elsewhere!)

Allow me to translate! The OP is upset because the lineside photography passes were withdrawn in view of very well justified concerns about trespass by the public wanting to see Flying Scotsman. AIUI the WSR PLC's insurers were also concerned. The OP is being quite unreasonable by seeing it as a personal affront which is nonsense, whereas in reality the WSR PLC had little alternative under the circumstances. Full marks to them for reinstating passes after due consideration. AFAIK most of the trains will be steam hauled for the Winter Steam event but as always operational conditions may change this for any particular train. This is no different from any other special event, or indeed during normal running. HTH.

  13. Hi Alistair - now officially confirmed so I can now say in public - the DMU will sub for a failed 53809 during the Winter Steam festival (see news page on wsr.org.uk) . Sorry for delay with this. Nos 6960, 7822 and 53808 all rostered to run, subject to availability, so I hope you are able to enjoy your day in West Somerset.

A useful excuse to celebrate the fact that the Station Master’s House has now come into Railway ownership again.

    Thanks!

Very little I like more than passing on knowledge about Railway Operations - or helping others do so.

    Safety - efficiency - heritage.

A certain steam railway (not the WSR) gives off irritating loudspeaker announcements requesting late passengers to shut the doors behind then. The picture above shows that this is not enough in an era where power doors are universal on "real" railways and people often have no idea how to cope with anything else. Sometimes not even with power doors.

Always fun to watch folk pressing the rubber door bump stop on a MK I coach expecting the door to close...
