Timings are up for this at:

The day is a long one as the RTC says that Network Rail cannot find an earlier path home apparently because of the extra traffic using Lincoln from the normal providers. (Charters come last).

It's also steam (46100) from Peterborough northwards, not from KGX, with a diesel to get us there. The Scot is stabled at the NVR after it comes off at Peterborough on December 7th having brought the RTC Yuletide Express down from York, heading back to Norwich.

Given the dearth of locomotives available, on balance it's to the credit of WCRC that they have been able to sort out something rather than the RTC cancelling some trips. That said, the Lindum Fayre, even if we assume that it will be a diesel free steam leg, is a lesser trip than was originally planned.

Couldn't they run Royal Scot light from York to Norwich ? Too much extra cost I expect .......

Just spotted a possible reason why the Lindum Fayre not only has to stand in line behind service trains but also, it seems, other charters as well. Pathfinder's trip to Lincoln drops off at 1153 on its way to Barnetby and then returns in the path that I was expecting around 1730 and trundles off to Newark in the slot that would have brought us back to KGX at a more hospitable time. Hey ho.

Maybe be slightly off the topic heading but continuing the discussion and there seems to be no Yuletide Express forum. I assume what claude hamilton means that the Scot could do Norwich-York-Peterborough?

I perceive a number of issues with that

Support crew availability for the LE move
Lack of time to turn and service the loco at York (the one place where even if you have 5 hours it never seems long enough)
Exceeds the (approx.) 200 mile a day limit for steam operation by one loco by quite an amount.
Support crew hours for a tour leaving Norwich at 0810 and back to Peterborough at 2030. Add to that prep and disposal time and you are in to one seriously long day.
Plus of course as mentioned cost and WCRC crew availability.

One assumes 60009 would have had to move from somewhere to Norwich for this run so one can but wonder why 46100 won't do likewise.

I'm not quite sure where all this doom-laden mis-information about the Norwich - York is coming from.

Repairs have been completed on No.9 and I have just distributed timings to move it from ELR to Norwich, in order to take up its remaining roster for RTC until Christmas. This of course is subject, as always, to satisfactory running at The Lancs this weekend on their 'Santas'.

I hope that might give some cheer to one or two.

I guess because the Duchess was doing the return leg, not No 9. I also expect that No 9 which if the plan happened, would be at Southall now after the Poole-Bristol yesterday would not move LE but as an ECS move as Oliver Cromwell did to Bristol last week.

Looks like our posts crossed in the ether James, good news which I heard alluded to yesterday during the Bristol trip but did not want to mention.

Yes and apologies to all for me incorrectly implying that the Norwich - York Yuletide trip would only get steam southbound. Had not realised that No9 was destined to return in time for it.

It looks like a diesel free day apart from the first bit as we are leaving the DL that brought in the stock at KGX. Load will be 11 when we get the Scot on.

Out of interest are RTC offering a part refund to those on the train to compensate for the fact the steam mileage is around half of what was originally advertised and promoted?

Nicely judged run to Lincoln. Now waiting time and for a platform.

Because they product they have delivered is not what was advertised, having around half the steam mileage.

This is exactly why I only go on UK Railtours/ DBC charters.

How do you work that out? Kings X/Lincoln/Newark/Kings X is around 267 miles and just the the Kings X/Peterborough sector of 76 miles is diesel not steam? That is not "around half".

Originally advertised as Steam Kings Cross- Lincoln- Kings Cross steam. Sorry, just realized that steam does return to Kings Cross this evening. Still 25% less steam than originally promoted though.

Just so and the next thing is that people will moan because the loco wasn't the Duchess. Given the loco issues with both No 9 and the Duchess I think that everyone has done pretty well to get steam on what they have. It's not unknown for me to challenge some of the practice that goes on but tbh this isn't one of them.
