Agreed. There is a debate to be had - and which has been had in this thread - about the roles of ownership, conservation policy, etc. That may fairly be represented as a challenge to the NRM's policy. But that is about the NRM's policymaking, and should not be an attack on the NRM per se, let alone those taking on deaccessioned items. So far, Swanage appear to be doing absolutely right by their asset, and that is to be welcomed wholeheartedly.

I haven’t read the beano article yet, but from the sound of it; the beano is doing very well to alienate itself from both NRM and Swanage Railway.

If that is the intention, fair enough if the beano’s publishers really want to drive down circulation by letting the editor harass preserved railways and NRM.
But I fully expect that the same editor and his staff will be aggrieved when Railways and museums refuse to talk to them.

Its a shame theyve done this as I generally find it a better presented magazine than others especially as Im not interested in diesel or electric traction. But Ive found the biased nature of the news in every issue of the magazine disgusting.

Stick a finger up to Steam Railway this Christmas and donate what you would spend on a subscription to the T3 maybe ;)

    Indeed.

Elsewhere in the same edition, there is a piece on the T.V. sponsored restoration of four carriages. One of these is the erstwhile N.R.M.Pullman Mk.1, now owned by Tyseley. It is referred to as not being "gifted" "transferred" or "donated" but, pejoratively, as "given away". An old tabloid trick.

I actually agree with what's was said. Why rip an engine apart and leave it in bits possibly for years while funds are raised, this has happened before and bits go missing, 46115 is a good example before it ended up at Carnforth

Can someone scan the beano T3 piece onto here. So we can all read it for ourselves to make our own minds up?

On the flip side, why spend years raising funds for a loco if it's not even been inspected properly to see if it can be restored and establish what it would cost?

Anyway £42k has already been raised which will kick start the restoration (if it's feasible) or be used to reassemble the loco to museum condition if not.

No, because that would be a breach of copyright and the owner of Nat-Pres could be sued.

If you have a smart phone or or tablet you can download the app and preview the first pages of the magazine. This includes the editorial and an article on the engine.

i went to the trouble of doing just that and could see nothing to get excited about in the editorial, they are valid points of view: that the loco should not be taken apart for inspection or should not be restored or should never have left the National Collection. They aren't my point of view but I suspect some people have agendas which involve knocking SR at all opportunities.

Read the “editorial”, but the shysters want me to part with £3.99 to read the article.

I’ll wait till someone leaves a copy lying around.
