Not REALLY necessary if the Star could be accompanied by both 2999 and 4079 in steam.

That's a pretty good analysis. All I'd add is that we have the benefit of hindsight. At the time these decisions were taken, they had far less information on which to base the analysis than we do. So even if we could gather all the relevant information and evaluate who got the best deal, that's no reason to condemn those who got the worst deal. For that matter, how much was getting the best deal down to judgement, and how much down to pure luck?

Hmmmph. The LNER had their 'great Gathering' at York, Why not have a 'Great Western Gathering', everything GWR that is in decent nick or steamable to gather at Didcot as it is the ideal backdrop, or St Blazey, then if the LMS types had theirs around Carnforth, the Southern types at Eastliegh..... No BR liveries or Standards allowed! :Nailbiting:

Like I've said before, try getting anything in and out of Didcot on a low-loader or even by rail (unless the situation has changed since earlier this year - if it has, then I humbly apologise).

Most recent Echo confirmed that DBC are no longer offering the service of tripping stock from West Yard into the centre, due to this means that to get stuff in and out by rail DRC may have to become its own TOC. It wasn't clear why DBC have withdrawn the service?

When 813 visited recently DB used a 66 and 3 wagons for braking.

It was announced at the AGM in September so one would hope they are on with finding some sort of solution....

They are not exactly short of them or (I hope) drivers for them.

Possibly the three wagons are to avoid the 66 entering the DRC site. Anyway it's only Lode Star that would need transferring. Maybe the track could be torn up behind it to stop it leaving. Wait, that might not be too practical....

Presumably DBC are still happy to work the likes of 60163 to and from DRC?

I have a vague memory that part of the problem is that DB drivers don't physically book on at Didcot any more so there are fewer occasions when someone can spend a spare half hour or so shifting a load into DRC and also quite possible fewer occasions when a spare loco is left standing at Didcot (especially if the 08 has gone). You'd hope a sensible compromise might be a sort of NYMR arrangement whereby certain locos (maybe the 08 and 14) are permitted to use the line to and from the loading pad only.

From recollection in the photos of 60009 or 70013 at Didcot in the summer there is a 66 in the background within DRC.

City of Truro and the Dukedog would ideally line up with 2516. And if Didcot can build a Dean Single in my lifetime... especially if one were to stretch a point and put 3282 Chepstow Castle plates on the Dukedog - that would be worth seeing.
