Looking way back to the first page and you asking about are suggestions for the line i have one.
Pick a time in the history of the line and run with it. Don't do stations in any other time just stick to one era like BR Western region and make everything look like it would when the whole line was like then.

It has been suggested that all the staions should have all the same colour scheme as Churston. Not that dreadful blue as Queens street.

Paignton (Queen's 'Park') is not worthy of the title of 'Station'. It is a covered carriage siding! All the stations should be either GWR or BR (WR) ala 1950 schemes.

As for 4277, if the informarion is correct - yes it is ideal for the line, but doesn't add anything to the motive power variety :+(

I thought it best to put guess incase the suggestion Re: 4277 was inaccurate and look a p**t #-o

Might not do much for variety but the requirement is for a powerfull locomotive that won't break the bank like an express passenger type and something that won't totally baffles the crews to start with, 4277 fits the bill perfectly, i suspect a 38XX may have been considered if there was one on the market that wasn't totally knackered.

Just wonder if they will fix "David" nameplates to it so they can have "David and Goliath" working together.[/quote]

Sorry I havn't been on for a few days I've been on the WSR, what more can I say!

Was 4277 up for sale then as I heard they couldn't source one?

It seems 4588 is in better condition than I was told as I was told it was a lot worse.

On the staff side of things the only problem I've ever had was when I asked the Thomas crew about the ebngine and they didn't know and seemed to have very little time for questions. Although this could have been because it's an outside engine and it's a very busy day, so understandable really.
As for Mr. Cogar we had many interesting chats where he'd reveal just ebnough info to me to tell me the answers in a vague sense but not enough to give the game away.

Also in terms of the Heritage Weekend, as I've previously said in case he has any opossition to running it, we should all attend and make it one of the best weekends of the year (Especially as there no Thomas to contend with) and so there will be no disputing the figures.

Also another thought surely if there is another engine on the line it will be findable, even if only glimpses of the tops through the Paignton shed windows or through the windows at Churston, then you can guess the size and type of the loco as I can tell whos in the shed at Paigntn just by the distance of the chimney to the cab and if you cant see a whole cab obviously its the manor

I've been giving it some deep thought over the last few days as to where on the PDSR that you could comfortable hide an engine so nobody could see it.

After some deep thought and research I believe I have sussed where they are hiding her, if she's arrived already.

I also thought if she's hidden here then she will be seeable at the Heritage Weekend, but of course the top statement also applies

perhaps they are storing it on the underground branch that leaves the main line via a facing point in Greenway tunnel and goes to the cellar at Greenway House, where Brunel built a secret station modelled on Paddington. but with only 2 short platforms....Oh blast, I've given the secret away!! #-o

You have well and truly let the cat out of the bag now Stu. The road out to Greenway will be packed and as you know it is single track in some places.

On a more serious note I hope that the Heritage Weekend will be well attended as it will reward those who take trouble to have exhibits there.

This thought of mine is an interesting one as if it was Buckfastleigh I wouls tell you exactly where it was and how to see it.
This is because they've done it before (with one of the coaches I believe) they just hide it in the shed and put the larger engines either side of it so you can't see it easily and shut the viewing gallery.

However with Paignton there are 3 Real possibility's:

    1. Paignton Shed, but you can see in through the top windows and the door is usually open if Samson (D3014?) is shunting, it may also be difficult to distinguish between the 42 and Goliath.

    2. Churston shed, the problem here of couse is that there are 3 windows on the side of it so you can quite easily see in and see it there.

    3. Churston Carriage Shed (opposite shed), this is probably the most likely because you can't easily see in here and also you wouldn't necessarily look there for it.

One other point though has anyone been to Paignton or Churston recently and have the doors been open or closed??

Also if I'm right and it is at Churston will we be able to go into that shed as surely this will give the game away.

See what you think I may be completely wrong and they may have another secret hiding place we havn't thought of.

I did like the Greenway Tunnel idea though, very good.

Perhaps they have cleverly hidden it somewhere else (i.e whatever it is hasn't arrived yet!)

That thought had also occured to me so maybe the question we should be asking is has anydbody seen 4277 recently, this would then answer the question as to whether shes hidden.

The other obvious point is we may be jumping to conclusions and it may not be 4277 it could be something else that hasn't been thought of yet. (i.e. a private sale or something)

Hi Greenway, welcome to the forum!!

...and, yes. I hope it is well attended too. I wonder where the brake van rides will be. Down through the tunnel would be fun! Maybe its just up and down at Churston?

....5239 just gone up with 7 on. Devon Belle full of grockles....

From what I have heard, 4277 should be arriving before the 'open weekend'. There is room for it in the Churston shed, as 5239 is now out and running.

Thanks for the welcome Stu. I haven't been to Churston for a week as Easter is a very busy time for me so railroads take second place.

I wonder why Scorpion says he can't see easily into the carriage shed? Maybe he has missed the roadside windows due to parked cars. #-o

If you really want to know where (or IF) she is hidden-try google earth? Unless she is in a shed?

Depends how recent the picture on Google Earth is, it could have been taken up to fiv years ago and thats not much good for finding where things are at present (especially when such things move)

Sorry I havn't been on in a few days been on my travels again to th SDR. I went to see their Gala, very good if I do say so myself. (on a different point is it complicated or expensive to set up a Fotopic site, as I'm considering the option).

In answer to Greenway's comment I did look in the shed at Churston on the roadside one time a few years ago but couldn't see in, maybe something was in the way then and this has changed now??

I think that if the loco isn't here yet then we all need to take it in turns to watch Kings Ash as thats undoubtedly the way she'll come in.
(Or we could all just listen to Gemini's traffic reports)

Is 4277 unserviceable then if she's going into the shed at Churston, or is it just a minor repair? Also where does this leave Braveheart in the queue as isn't her boiler away for inspection. (I got that gem from BC himself so assumed it was accurate)
