Go take a look at the Thompson coach at the NYMR, the scumbling alone is a work of art.

But that was vinyl. "Scumbling" was an art perfected by the LNER :)

This is one of the excellent SRPS Thompson coaches showing what I mean (the image is from their website, their copyright applies. Reproduced to show scumbling effect).

I rather think a Mk3 in that livery would look utterly magnificent, actually. Would be very much reminiscent of the Gresley and Thompson steel panelled stock.

Some of that on the main line behind an Apple Green or Garter Blue loco would look the mutt's nuts.

Think on this - we could have a P2 and an A1 pulling faux teak mk3s. Either way, if it looks the part it'll look amazing.

Proper 1930s teak would be the best but that's highly unlikely. Faux teak modern stock would be fine by me. Another option would be the two tone blue of the Coronation set.

Not drifting as far as teaks and scrumbling.

I don't no if it's significant or not, but the WCR daily test path through Hellifield has had the usual "Q" noting all week, but tomorrow (Friday) it doesn't?
    Probably nothing to worry about!

Neither of which would be historically correct for a mk3 coach, and we know how much historical authenticity taxes so many minds on here.....

Indeed, its in authentic for people in 1950's Cumbria to even be aware that the GWR exists.

Sorry, but A), the Mk.3 livery debate needs kicking over to somewhere else so not to detract from Bil, and B) teak on a Mk. 3, which is clearly a metal body would just look stupid.

I can understand Thompson stock being done to go into rakes of wooden stock around at the time, but a new rake, of newer (admittedly not brand new) stock should just go into a livery that is going to suit. To be honest a new custom livery for the rake would be my preferred option, but I can add comments on that later.

The perfect way to combine complaints about both livery and diesel shovage.

I'd prefer not - HSTs are at their best as a full set, with Valenta engines...
