Congratulations - and some other posters on (or more accurately perhaps members of) this forum are actually positive. A true miracle!

Does Tornado normally have illumination under the running boards to light up the coupling rods or was that done so they could video the action at speed?

They're there primarily to aide in preparation and disposal in the dark. They're very useful for getting a better view of oiling points in the pitch black.

Watched the documentary live on iplayer at 7.30. Great programme. Lump in the throat when watching her pull out of the station after she had reached the ton with the Matey headboard proudly displayed.
There was also a live report from London on BBC Look North at 6.30pm about the programme. Looks like 60163 is hauling the Belmond working on 17th May.

Just watched the program on iPlayer. A program that built up the drama and must have been gripping for the enthusiast (even knowing what happened) and the general public. An excellent production. Let's hope it gets a wider viewing.

The program needs a wider viewing. I hadn't realised the Matey headboard had been used. Lovely tribute on the 100mph run.

    Fantastic effort by everyone involved.

What a cracking piece of TV! Even though I knew the outcome as others have said, I found the ramping up of the tension gripping the arms on my chair! Really did put a lump in the throat, it's such a fantastic achievement by the A1 trust. Just a quick question, the Huw Parker featured, is it the same gent who owned what's now Ian Riley's Jinty?

Very Good programme for a regional one, Why can't we have that broadcast nationally instead some of the medicre trash that's scheduled ?.

I'd be well annoyed if I player didn't exist and I'd missed out on that.

Yes, you're correct about Huw. He was indeed the previous owner of 47298.

It looked as though it was a bit of a wild ride on the footplate.A damn fine bit of TV viewing.

I was struck by that too - but was it the locomotive or the tender that was bouncing about? There were a few comments early on in the run about the locomotive's movements, but it seemed to be caused by some slightly rough track?

With the camera affixed to the loco, it appeared that only the tender was gyrating, but what was actually taking place was movement between the loco and tender, if the camera had been on the tender, that would have appeared a smooth ride, with the loco doing the jiving, which suggests the movement between loco and tender would have been relatevely, far less than it looked.
Superb coverage of events though, congratulations all round on this one...

I thoroughly enjoyed the programme and thought the Beeb excelled themselves - what a contrast to last year's 'Trainspotting Live' cr@p.
Actually Huw was involved with 47298 long before he owned it - being part of the team that restored it from Barry condition and operated it at Steamport then Llan and elsewhere. Eee - but he were now't but a lad then. I'm glad he's still involved, we've lost contact over the years, and that his locos have got bigger as mine have got smaller!
    Ray.

Weather is not looking good for views of her on 17th. Hope the forecast changes.

Just watched the program, have to say, was a great piece of production, and enough to keep all types interested.

Once again A1ST do the preservation movement a big favour, with their efforts.

I've just watched the program via iPlayer and what a program. None of the usual razzamatazz and journalistic froth. All I can say is Roll on the P2 2007.........

We've still got Huw as a driver at Llangollen, but will now have to keep a close eye on him to make sure that he doesn't exceed the 25 m.p.h. limit.

Excellent production by the BBC. Plain, straightforward, informative yet so exciting! Hope it gets on the air nationally.

And a real insight on what it's like to ride a loco at speed; and the preparations. Hats off to all involved.

Just finished my second viewing of this wonderful programme. This time I watched it on the TV and noticed the end credits footage on the footplate is all from the 100mph section.
Have a look again folks, the needle is on the 100 mph mark throughout :)
