Is that right? I thought sponsorship from anyone whose choice is orange/black/orange would be gratefully received!

Clan Line is currently visible outside the Hosking centre at Crewe, with what appeared to be a full tender of coal. Steam test imminent?

Are you sure it's Clan Line? The last newsletter from the society didn't give the impression that it was that far advanced

It was a Bulleid shaped locomotive rubbed down with no smoke deflectors and a MN-shaped nameplate (not fitted, but the outline was there). Unless 35022 or 35027 have had a lightning quick overhaul, it's 35028.

Yes, as James has stated it IS Clan Line, and may well be in steam as we speak (I'm waiting for a report from the engineers). This will be the first 'steam test' with just about everything bolted back on, so other than the paint job we're just about there.

35028 was moved outside for weighing according to the Clan Line website.

Another new picture from the Clan Line Facebook page:) (taken by Andy Kelly).

I also had an e-mail update from UKRailtours today:
".....35028 has now moved under her own power for the first time since overhaul. Engineers have deemed the steam test a complete success and within the next few days some night time test runs will be undertaken between Crewe and Chester, hauling a support carriage and a ‘dead’ Class 66. The loco will then be painted and it won’t be long before she is heading south to her ‘home shed’ at Stewarts Lane in south London. Clan Line is the rostered locomotive for our Bournemouth Belle, Waterloo Sunset and Atlantic Coast Express specials, marking 50 years since end of steam on the Southern Region. Some of these are nearly full so don’t miss out!"

So she will be undertaking some test mileage very soon, and looks like she will return to mainline metals before her sister.

Here's a shot of Clan Line at LNWR Crewe yesterday - now looking very familiar (other than the paintwork)! The loco was steamed and ran up & down the yard last weekend with no problems of any note. Overnight light test runs next week, then into the paint shop, followed by two loaded test runs round the Shrewsbury-Wellington-Oxley Chord-Stafford circle. Assuming there's no problems it will be straight back to Stewarts Lane ready for the '50th Anniversary' commemorations - a busy couple of months or so coming up for sure (as if the last two years haven't been)!!

Well done the MNLPS, what a fantastic group of people, an overhaul that's on time and budget, you can't knock that. Just one little question from myself though, is there any chance of 35028 visiting and working at a few more heritage railways?

Not quite correct, it didn't come through on budget with a new front tubeplate not in the original plan. Funds are now needed to cover the unforeseen cost and I'm sure Derby2 will confirm that all donations would be gratefully received

Johnb is quite correct. As with any overhaul, you don't know how much work is needed until you take the engine apart. There was quite a bit of extra work needed, in fact, but, as usual with the MNLPS, we wanted to do the job properly, so we think that the decisions to spend more time and money on Clan Line now were the right decisions.

We should also point that it is LNWR Heritage at Crewe who are doing the major part of the work, with a little help from some of us.

The latest details are now on our website - see https://clan-line.org.uk/news/crewe_24/ , including a short video of the first tentative moves.

Nice to see the latest report on the Clan Line website. However, shouldn't the laser profiling for gauging be undertaken after she has been repainted. The paint thickness might put her out of gauge
