GB X would return via Yatton, Bristol and Swindon.
The problem is the clearances at Thatcham up platform and perhaps Aldermaston.

    Cheers, Neil

Is that a would or a could? As it's not what is stated on the website - or has the website not been updated with the route change?

I suspect the RTC doesn't yet know what is going on. There are no timings from NR yet. That's a fact.

Or maybe 34046 will do the final section solo? I think she should be able to lift the train over Bruton/Brewham bank and Savernake without assistance.

GB X could divert from Westbury to Paddington via Chippenham and Swindon. <BJ>

An outer firebox issue with 60009 found on the 14th after a session in steam has been repaired and tested, and the loco is ready for further running-in prior to GBX ( as per Ian Riley on The Works, 19/4.)
As ever, due credit to Ian's team at Bury.

    A further tweak to GBX.

The trip to Oban is now to Fort William. But in so doing, the return is also steam - 62005 each way. A good compromise with a coach transfer option from Crainlarich for those who want to see Oban. The rare bit of track from Dundee to Perth will be diesel hauled. Are we surprised? Steam comes off at Plymouth on the Penzance leg and as expected the return to London is via Bristol and Swindon. Oh, and not a Black 5 to be seen anywhere! The locos involved are 60103, 60009, 62005, 46233, 45690, 34046 and 46100.

Any indication as to what length train 62005 will take to Kyle? Presume not double headed with 44871 as suggested on UKSteam. Kyle trip part of tour this year not optional so train would have to be longer?

You can run a decent length train to Kyle if you have enough power, the Easter Highlander with 2 class 37's took about load 11/12 last Sunday.

Reduced train length to Kyle but GBX doesn't look to be particularly long anyway - maybe only 9 before you add POB(s)

EWS managed it on The North Briton, 45407 on the front tender first and nr 9 on the back, but then we had the problem of watering 2 locos at Perth with low water pressure in the hydrants.

You should tell WCRC that as one has to assume that from their perspective it is operationally difficult. It's not as if the line is particularly busy. It could well be something tiresome like where they park up the train at Dundee so that 62005 can hook on the rear and then depart back towards Perth. I have to say that it's all quite a price to pay for the 'excitement' of crossing the Tay Bridge.

45407 was waiting for us just outside Dundee when we arrived and was attached while we were in the platform. See below : -

Can't help but wonder if NWR will start to worry about a fire risk across Scotland for steam? The Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway are now operating under their fire risk procedure after several fire resulting in the attendance of the fire brigade in the past week or two (and several others which were put out by loco crews). Worrying given all the locos seem to be in place for once!

I hope not but we haven't had much rain here in Edinburgh for a while. The forecast is a little unsettled this week so hopefully there will be enough rain to avoid that situation.
